Small jobs welcome

"Bob was very communicative from the start and on time. He’s a man of his word and more than a fair price for top notch work. He did our drywall installation within a few days and takes pride in his work. He does the project himself from start to finish so rest assured you know the quality you’re getting. Definitely will reach out again in the future for our next drywall project. Thanks Bob!!"

"We hired James to drywall our dining room and guest bedroom. He is a one man show and guarantees great work! He made sure to ask what our finishing would be (smooth with crown molding) and answered all of the questions we had. Every day he left the project site clean and made sure to protect the rest of our home from dust. We are extremely happy with the results! Looking forward to having him work on more projects as our home renovations continue."

"I needed a 20x20 hole in my wall repaired. The hole was caused by electrical work and these guys came in and replaced the drywall and mudded it in exceptional fashion. Their work and professionalism is outstanding and you can't be the price."

"The team of 3 showed up each morning promptly at 7:30 AM. They begun by throughly laying plastic everywhere to catch all of the dust, dirt, and drywall compound. By 3:30 PM they would remove all of the plastic and clean up. Some of the work they did was:

* Repaired under the stairs where carpet once was
* cracks in the wall from the house settling
* holes where a hand rail once was
* holes from old cable lines
* many old patches
* popped nail heads
* hung drywall 20 ft high
* retextured entire rooms - 9 walls total

We were very pleased at the work done. It surpassed our expectations. We still have some more worked needed in the future and will certain reach out to Jim and his team again."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

When choosing materials for finishing basement walls, consider factors such as moisture resistance, durability, and fire resistance. Opt for materials specifically designed for basement environments, like moisture-resistant drywall or cement board. Insulation with vapor barriers can help regulate temperature and prevent condensation. Consider using mold-resistant paints or coatings.

Research and consult with experts to select materials that are suitable for your specific basement conditions and intended use. Prioritize quality and compatibility to achieve long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing results.

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

To hide drywall edges, you need to properly apply drywall tape and multiple layers of joint compound. These materials hide the seams between drywall sheets and fill the holes from drywall screws, leaving behind a smooth, flat finish to paint over. Apply joint compound smoothly, and finish the job by sanding the walls to make sure you fully hide drywall edges and other imperfections.

Yes, you can install drywall over plaster, but there are important factors to consider. While it can create a smooth, flat surface, it is often not the best approach. Installing drywall over plaster will increase the wall's thickness, which can cause issues with existing window and door frames that may no longer fit. You might also need to adjust power outlets to keep them accessible. A better, though more expensive, option is to remove the old plaster and lath entirely before installing new drywall. Drywalling directly over plaster seals in the old material, and if any problems arise later, you will need to remove both layers down to the structural beams for repairs. Given the potential complications, this job is best handled by professionals.

A utility knife is sharp enough to score the drywall and it may work in a pinch for outlet box holes. However, one of the best tools for drywall when you need to make exact cuts for an outlet box quickly is a drywall saw. This handheld tool has a longer blade than a utility knife, so it penetrates the thickness of the drywall easily. The design of its handle and the teeth in its blade make it easier to control while cutting quicker than you can with a utility knife.
