"I've used Metropolitan before and will continue to use them for all of my door and window replacement projects! The entire team is knowledgeable, professional, and communicative. I chose Anlin windows and ProVia entry doors and I couldn't be happier with how great my home looks."

"I was originally planning to get a wooden door, but Tony explained how much cheaper and easier it would be just to get a pre-hung metal door. He explained it would never need maintenance (as, of course, wood does), and all I'd ever have to do is just hose it down. None of the other people I interviewed for the job thought to suggest that, and one of them gave me an estimate of $1,500! I am very happy with the door; it's heavy-duty and looks just like wood. Tony, his son, and Cody were extremely, polite, professional, and helpful. They did the work in a timely manner and told me to be sure and call them it there were any problems. I would definitely hire them again."

"Had a hole in my screen door due to my dogs tearing it up. Pablo came, fixed that with a thicker weaved screen and a pet grill, and also fixed two other screens that needed to be done. Service was great, appointment was fast and his response time was excellent. I would definitely recommend and use Clear View in the future. Thanks to Pablo for the great experience."

"This was a challenging job and Precision Glasswork rose to the challenge and lived up to our expectations. Their back office was well organized, the installation crew were total pros -- both careful and precise -- and the pre-measured mirrors all fit like gloves. Precision Glasswork is busy and glass is exacting work. For us, it was worth waiting for a time-slot to open up for our work to get on their calendar."

"Brothers replaced 26 windows (including a slider) on our home. Our existing windows were 30+ years old and were not opening/closing correctly; letting in a lot of heat/cold and outside noise. Brothers provided a preliminary bid, spent a half day confirming measurements, and placed the order for the windows. This process was very smooth. Pricing was very competitive and sale was no pressure. The crew that installed the windows was very friendly, professional, and detail oriented. They cleaned up everyday and really seemed to enjoy their work. Installation took about 2.5 days and was very smooth. I would like to recognize Amir, Travis, and Mike for exceptional service. I highly recommend Brothers."

"I was originally looking for someone to replace our patio door. I met Lior and decided to also renovate our kitchen. Everything went so well that we decided to also renovate the 2 bathrooms, replace all the flooring , interior and exterior paint. Everything went well. Lior is very knowledgeable, patient and very responsive. I was really apprehensive going into this since you hear all the horror stories with contractors. However, Iâ m so grateful that this is definitely not the case. Very happy with the end result. Highly recommended."

"If there was a better word than outstanding I would use it here. I am a landlord with multiple units and when you find a contractor of Derek's ability and professionalism you keep him. I already have him slotted for 2 near future projects. I can not say how he did without sounding as if I was making this up. I contacted 3 providers, all from Angie's List. The first had no real clue what he was doing and his proposal was absolute junk. The second was well qualified for the sub floor repair but want no part of the hardwood work. Derek's proposal matched what I thought was the correct approach, he handled both the sub floor and the hardwood repair and then went beyond the original proposal by sanding and refinishing the entire room and part of the next to exactly match the floor to the remainder of the house. He did exactly what he said he was going to do, when he said he was going to do it, did it correctly and then went beyond my expectations. A real professional who gives a darn about his reputation and work. His initial quote was well above the other 2 Angie's List providers and after talking to him about it I understood it was a worst case firm price. He could not really tell the extent of the damage to the sub flooring and hardwood until he removed it. The final price ended up in line with what the middle quote was but the quality of the work was magnificent. I have reviewed probably 10-12 other Angie's list providers of various other home repair services. Derek at Local Home Services is by far the best contractor I have used and will use him again in the future."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

While the benefits of garage door screens usually outweigh the downsides, there are some cons to installing one. First off, they can be quite expensive, especially if you’re having a professional install a retracting screen or a custom size screen. Second, they let fresh air and natural light in, but they also don’t provide the same privacy from people in the neighborhood that a solid door does. As you might guess, screens also won’t insulate your garage, so they’re often not usable in colder weather.

The average cost to repair a window is about $400, with prices typically ranging from $175 to $1,500. The final cost is influenced by several factors, including:

  • Number of Panes: Single-pane repairs average around $200, double-pane repairs range from $200 to $400, and triple-pane repairs can cost $600 to $1,100.

  • Type of Repair: Minor fixes for a track, seal, or sash are more affordable than repairs for broken glass or window frames, which are typically the most expensive.

  • Window Details: The size, type, and material of the window affect the price.

  • Accessibility: Windows on upper floors or in hard-to-reach locations may increase labor costs.

  • Other Factors: The extent of the damage, local labor rates, and the need for emergency service will also impact the total cost.

For comparison, a full window replacement can range from $175 to $1,800 or more for high-end materials or large windows like bay or bow windows.

Yes, a variety of screen materials cut out glare from the sun. Solar screen material can block up to 90% of the glare and heat from the sun, saving on cooling costs. It also offers privacy yet unlimited outward visibility. The cost depends on the size of the screen roll, but solar screens cost between $25 and $90 per roll.

Yes, professionals can enhance screen durability by using robust materials like stainless steel or fiberglass and employing advanced installation techniques. They provide reinforcement and repair services that extend the screens' lifespan while maintaining functionality and appearance.

Whether you should repair or replace a screen door depends on the type and extent of the damage. It is easy and economical to repair a small tear in the mesh using a widely available DIY patch kit. However, if there are large tears, multiple damaged spots, or if the screen is made of a specialized material, replacing the entire screen mesh might be a better long-term investment for a tidier appearance. You should also consider the condition of the frame; if the frame itself is damaged, it's likely time to replace the entire door. Other factors to weigh include whether you want a new style or need a more durable door.
