"First of all, I cannot say enough great things about Sergio of Brickhouse Masonry and his crew. These guys were masterminds and true professionals when it came to installing stonework at my house. From the first time I met Sergio, I knew that this was the guy I could trust with my house. He knew exactly what I wanted and had awesome ideas that we added, that just turned out amazing and better than I could ever imagine. I have been in business and customer service my whole life and Sergio and his company has it. He always answered his phone no matter what day it was or at least called me back within minutes which speaks big of the company. I highly recommend Sergio of Brickhouse and his company for all your future work you will not regret it."

"I was so fortunate to have found Jesus Pantoja Landscaping to complete a project in my backyard. We started with uneven dirt and non blooming trees and finished with a paved courtyard and I couldn’t be happier with the finished product. Jesus Pantoja Landscaping is a family operation and they are terrific people with great work ethic he and his team were punctual, professional and are a joy to work with. I would highly recommend them for design, install, and maintenance to those who are particular and want outstanding service."

"The guys came on time, assessed the situation, they shopped for the lights and sought my approval via text while they were shopping. They provided more support to the track and installed all of the lights and turned them in the direction I wanted. Very easy to work with."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

You can close up a chimney instead of demolishing it. Homeowners often go this route because the cost of removing a chimney, especially a structurally important chimney, can be expensive.

Properly closing up a chimney involves closing and sealing the damper, installing a chimney cap damper, and sealing the fireplace opening with a door or bricks. The cost to seal and cap a chimney is around $500 to $650—significantly less than the average chimney removal cost.

Yes, in most cases, you can remove a fireplace while keeping the chimney. This process requires sealing the chimney at the bottom where it connected to the fireplace and capping it at the top. It is essential to consult a chimney professional or inspection specialist beforehand. They will need to determine if the chimney's structural integrity is sufficient to remain safely in place without the support of the fireplace.

Both wood-burning stoves and fireplaces can emit smoke and other combustion gases that are harmful to human health. According to the American Lung Association, wood smoke can lead to coughing and wheezing as well as long-term health impacts like increased risks for heart attacks and stroke.

Newer models meet the modern efficiency standards set in 2020 by the Environmental Protection Agency for cleaner burning, more efficient wood stoves. Regular maintenance can also minimize smoke.

Common issues discovered during a chimney inspection or cleaning include creosote buildup, cracked liners, structural degeneration or masonry degradation, and obstructions such as blocked flues or animal nests. These issues are potential safety hazards that can lead to combustion problems or poor air quality if not addressed.

The best style of chimney cap for a brick chimney is one that fits tightly around the brick top of the chimney. The cap should have a screen to fully enclose it to keep animals out. The best materials include stainless steel, copper, or aluminum that fit tightly or are custom fabricated for a perfect fit on your chimney.
