Small jobs welcome

"Recently we had Finest Fence replace two sides of our wooden fence in our backyard. The fence looks beautiful but we noticed on our slope that portions of the fence were placed high resulting in gaps at the base of the fence. My small to medium size dog managed to fit under the gap into my neighbors backyard. We called Finest Fence and explained the situation. They said that they would need to charge additional to place a base board to close the gaps. After spending $5000 for the fence, We thought charging extra to close the gaps was unfair. They would not back down and the tone was a bit rude when they said " This is what it is, if you choose to fix it fine. If not that is fine to." What ever happened to the saying " Customer Satisfaction Guaranteed"?!"

"My family and I had a lovely experience with VFD, they installed our fence and gate very efficiently and it looks incredible. Our home looks finished and it is due to the quality of the vinyl fence and gates. Couldn’t thank this company enough!"

"I am SO glad I went with Encore Builders! Oz and Brandon were so amazing and knew exactly what they were doing. I was on the fence about going with turf in the backyard and now I don't know how I went so long without it! Everything came out great and I wish I did this sooner. Can't recommend them more!"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Since wood is weaker when installed horizontally versus vertically, a horizontal fence is prone to sagging. You can prevent this drooping from happening by building a sturdier fence. Use softwoods that are more stable, such as cedar and redwood, or denser hardwoods for your fence materials. If you can’t afford these pricey materials, use thicker two-by-six pressure-treated pine boards or shorten the span the fence boards have to cover by installing more posts.

You can't build a fence against your neighbor's fence if it touches or is attached to it unless you get explicit permission from your neighbor. Most municipalities recommend building a fence about two feet away from your neighbor's fence to allow access for fence repair and mowing.

A silt fence should be buried in a trench that is 6 to 12 inches deep. A depth of at least 6 to 8 inches is necessary to prevent water and sediment from running underneath the fence. A deeper trench, up to 12 inches, provides better anchoring during wet and windy weather. To ensure proper installation, look for a red line on the silt fence fabric, which often indicates the correct burial depth. Always adhere to local guidelines and regulations; a professional contractor will be familiar with these requirements.

Most homeowners don't need to inform their neighbors before constructing a fence, according to the law, but you will need to make sure that you’re building on the property line or on your side of the property line. Otherwise, the neighbor could complain, which would require you to tear down and reinstall the fence. In any case, keeping them in the loop is the neighborly thing to do!

Whether you inform your neighbors or not, always use property records and a land survey to ensure your fence stays within your property boundaries.

You can use a few different tactics to prevent your deck gate from sagging. Aside from using strong, rot-resistant woods, introducing a diagonal element—such as a tension rod or solid piece of wood to act as a brace—across the gate will offer better support. You can also use rigid joists to prevent the gate from sagging.
