"

From start to finish, they did an excellent job.  My husband's comment was:  "I've never seen such a great job".

I told Rick we had a lot of stuff to move before they could start, he told me not to worry about it, they would move everything.  When they were finished, not only did they clean up their mess, they put all the patio furniture back.  The crew that came to our house were extremely nice and hard working.

We have another house that will need paint next year and I will be calling Rick to do the job.  I just can't say enough about this company.

"
The experience went very good overall. Clayton, the owner, was very professional. He came out and gave me an estimate for the drywall repairs and kitchen remodeling work. He was referred to me by another contractor and we were happy with the results. He always came out when he said he would and he finished the job on time so i could get my next tenant in the home. The work was clean and the walls and kitchen look great!"

"Purchased Big Deal for house painting. Did not hear from contractor so emailed and then left message on phone. Received call back about two weeks later and scheduled estimate. Estimator took my fan deck to get a color match, and I advised her we needed this done ASAP.

Another week went by, then another, left message to please provide estimate. no response. Contacted help desk. Advised help desk we wished to cancel this contractor for non response. Another week went by and received phone message from contractor, that they needed to schedule the power wash, still no mention of estimate! This made me uncomfortable as I would then be committed to continue with no idea what it would cost."

"The company spokesperson contacted me by telephone and asked for photos 3 days after my purchase.  I sent the photos to her email with details and closeups of the rotten parts.  After another 3-4 days she sent back an email with circles around the parts.  I replied again that the portions circled were indeed needing attention.  A week went by and finally (3 weeks) an email stating that I should purchase lumber with some incorrect sizes of boards included.  I responded the next day with correct measurements and photos to accompany them.  More time passed and finally a date was set.  (11 emails, 15 messages on Angie's list)  Each and every time when I sent an email I suggested that the company send someone out before purchasing lumber to be certain the correct sizes were purchased.
The date came and the technician arrived on time and (to my surprise) with lumber in his truck.  He looked over the area and began work immediately.  I did not supervise during the repair.  He was friendly but quiet (I suspect his English language skills are poor) and cleaned up after himself.  After he left I noticed that insead of a whole piece of lumber that three areas of new wood had been pieced.  The one concerning me the most is very visible and the horozontal bottom piece is 1" wide  X  24.5" long pieced onto a larger piece, instead of one correct board 6.5" wide.  Here is what I wrote correcting the company 2 weeks before the repairs:
  • You wrote:Hello
    1. The upright beams on either side of door are 80" tall, 3.5" wide and 2" thick. Only the right side's base is rotten.
    2. On the Left outside corner the entire beam is more than 11' but about 3' of a 2 x 4 piece could replace the rotten area plus another foot or so of a similar piece (atop the cement step) on the inside. At the base of the inside (atop the cement and adjacent to those) corner measurements are 2" thick x 6.5" thick x 24.5" long.

I would be happy for your technicians to purchase appropriate materials plus base paint after verifying what's needed since no one wants to purchase the incorrect materials or waste any time on this small project.
    • Apr 1, 8:55amSpectrum One wrote:Martha, based on the pictures that you've provided the following material is needed:
      3 pc of 2-by-6 wood
      1 pc of 2-by-4 wood

Please let me know whether you'd like to provide them or would like us to bring provide it for you and you would reimburse us for the purchased items.

      Best,
      Olga

    • After the repair I sent an email with my concerns.  I have been told that the company will only consider painting with primer and that "That particular part will not be shown as two pieces attached when you pain it."  Unfortunately this is NOT true since I immediately primed the new area because of the weather forecast for rain.  The company also claims that the workman did "more" than I originally stated.  This is also untrue.

"I own a house in Rocklin and hired John to make a safe and maintenance free yard for my relatives/tenants who live there, including 5 little kids.  John was absolutely wonderful to work with.  His work was on time and on budget and of the highest quality.  He is a exceptionally pleasant person and brought ideas and an open mind to our initial planning meeting, then kept me informed at each phase of the project with progress reports and suggestions to keep our costs on target.  He understood our
objectives of creating a safe play space, making choices and repairs to ensure durability, enhancing privacy, and creating the least maintenance needs possible.  What a great job he did!  We got exactly what we wanted.  I would not hesitate for a second to recommend John and his crew.

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Materials for a second-story deck must be weather- and rot-resistant, though the specific choices will largely be determined by your budget and style preference. Pressure-treated wood is on the lower end of the price scale, but it can be customized and stained the way you like it. Composite, on the other hand, is pricier for installation and has fewer options for customization, but you’ll save money and time in the long run because it requires little maintenance.

No, you don't need to stain Ipe decking, although you can if you want to change the color. You will, however, need to apply a UV coating if you don't want the natural color to fade. Speak to a deck staining specialist near you to discuss the best options if you want to stain your decking. And remember that you’ll need to seal your Ipe wood deck annually to protect it from scratches and Mother Nature.

Footings for ground-level decks need to be at least 12 inches deep, and some areas require them to be even deeper. A standard range for deck footings is anywhere from 12 to 48 inches. The minimum footing depth is determined by an area’s frost line and soil conditions. If you’re unsure how deep to install deck footings, check local building codes to find the minimum footing depth in your area.

Floating decks are a cost-effective and versatile option, but they come with some compromises. Since they sit on smaller footings instead of being deeply anchored, they’re more likely to shift over time, especially in areas with heavy rainfall or freeze-thaw conditions. Their low-to-the-ground design makes them more susceptible to moisture buildup and potential water damage.

Deck boards should be spaced no more than three-eighths of an inch apart. This is enough space to allow water and small debris to pass through without collecting on the surface, but not enough to create a tripping hazard. Certain materials, like pressure-treated wood, shrink over time, so they may need less space at installation.
