"Great work performed by a true professional. He took time to measure and line everything up so that it was visually appealing while remaining completely functional. Care and professionalism of this nature is a very rare thing these days so when you come across it as a homeowner...you never forget it. I have other projects in mind that I believe Jerry would be perfect for. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that my family and I will do business with Jerry again and will be happy to recommend him to anyone that asks if we know of a really good handyman.

"Rick, the owner, was a man of his word from beginning to end. His crew was respectful of our family, family's time and concerns. (18 month old baby & 3yr old) After my wife and I selected our colors they came out and in two days the exterior of our two story plus the interior vaulted ceiling was completed with nothing disturbed. If you don't mind your neighbors stopping and complimenting your homes new look then Four Seasons Painting is well priced with quality workmanship which we know we couldn't have made a better choice."

"It went well.  Creig came by, surveyed the house, the attic space, and availability of electrical circuits and provided a reasonable quote for the work.  About a week and a half later, when I had the fans on hand, I called him up, and he was available for the following Saturday.  It turned out a long day for him, but he did his work well.  He was pleasant and professional.  I'm satisfied with the completed work.  I feel I got good value for my money, and would definitely hire him again."

"Do make sure you and your contractor understand each other and explain exactly what you need and want.  Most often
old homes will have problems with dry rot, termites, old electrical and a good contractor lets you know you have these problems and will give you an estimate of what it will cost to fix them.  My opinion is if you are going to have a job done you should not mask problems.  We were fortunate not to have had dry rot.  The bones of our house was in very good condition.  However, our electrical panel was going to need replacing.  If you have your home already open to reside or whatever you are doing the extra time and cost is worth it.

Do check for licesne that is current.  No what type of permits will be needed."

"We happened upon AJR Home Improvement Service as they were doing some work for a neighbor nearby. We had the opportunity to see Anthony working and noticed he appeared efficient and knowledgeable about his work as he repaired a portion of roof and some gutters. I approached him and asked about a couple of items we had concerns about at our home. He was polite, professional and responsive to questions asked. Once he was completed with the job nearby, he took a closer look at our concerns and in addition to telling us what we could do, also offered us the benefit of his experience by letting us know what could probably be done by us. He promised to get back to me with a quote in short order. As promised we received a quote for the discussed items including gutter installation, gutter repair and fascia repair. The quote was reasonable and he advised he would be able to complete the work in the near future. When our agreed upon date arrived, he was on time and ready to work. A short while later he gave us an update that weather damage was not as extensive as initially thought. He immediately took $200 off of the price for the job. Work was completed in timely fashion and looks great. I would not hesitate to hire him again or refer him to a friend."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

The best material for your deck depends on several factors, including your budget, location, aesthetic preferences, and the level of maintenance you’re willing to do. Wood decking, like redwood, ipe, cedar, and pine, lasts the longest, but it’s more expensive and requires more upkeep than composite and synthetic decking.

Yes, you can attach a deck to a mobile home, but it’s important that the work be done correctly to avoid the potential for major damage to your home. Many building codes require that any additions to mobile homes—including decks—be either freestanding or have their own support structures. Getting permits may require submitting the home's original floor plan, the proposed floor plan, framing details, and more.

Yes, it is possible to build a small, basic deck for $5,000, particularly if you use less expensive materials and a simple design. To stay within this budget, consider a size under 10x12 feet and use affordable materials like pressure-treated wood or cedar. While the general cost for deck building ranges from $4,350 to $12,560, with an average around $8,200, some projects can be completed for as little as $4,350. You can also save on labor costs by doing the work yourself, but be aware that mistakes could end up costing more than hiring a professional. A contractor may have a higher upfront cost, but they can ensure a safe, stable deck that will last.

A deck doesn’t have to be perfectly level. Many pros even recommend a gentle slope to ensure proper drainage and increase longevity. The ideal gentle slope is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch per foot away from the property, leading water away from the home to prevent pooling and reduce the risk of damage. It also minimizes rot, mold, and other moisture-related problems.

Both deck footings and deck posts help prop up your deck. However, footings are the bottommost parts of a deck that touch the ground. They’re usually made of concrete. Posts are pieces of wood that attach to the top of the footings with brackets. They run upwards and connect to the underside of your deck to support its weight.
