"Daniel inspected the existing electrical issue (no 110v power behind new range) and offered options. After some discussion we chose his recommended solution and he completed the electrical system changes quickly. I was pleased by the quality, quick, professional work."

"Our house is over 30 years old and the electrical panel was in questionable state after various contractors over the years had accessed it for their projects. For safety and security reasons, we had Rooster Electric upgrade the electrical panel. The electrician needed to cut the house siding to install the new panel and did so expertly, providing new trim and caulking. The job looks great and we feel safer now that the panel is up to specs. Thank you, Rooster Electric, for walking us through the project and doing excellent work. Weâ re so tired of contractors taking the quick and easy route to get their job done rather than providing good, respectable customer service. Youâ ll get our recommendation whenever someone asks if we know a good and trustworthy electrical company. L&N in Fair Oaks"

"I'm thrilled with the recessed lighting and smart switch installation Amano Electric completed in my home. They flawlessly achieved the clean, modern "smart house" aesthetic I've always envisioned. The lighting is absolutely gorgeous, and the smart features function perfectly, significantly enhancing the overall vibe of the space. From start to finish, the Amano Electric team was on time, professional, and highly informative, taking the time to explain every aspect of the installation. Their commitment to detail and ensuring my satisfaction was evident throughout the process. "The Huft technicians knew their stuff. They arrived promptly in the morning, removed the existing units, and installed the new units without a hitch. The systems were up and running by the afternoon, and have served me well over the last three years, working great in both summer and winter. Huft provided free semi-annual maintenance visits for two years. There was a minor problem with the rooftop unit recently, and they repaired it under warranty at no charge. The cost was not cheap, but for me it was worth it to go all-electric."

"Simeon from Golden Valley Electrical came out and fixed our kitchen outlets with no issues at all. He was on time, easy to talk to, and clearly knew his stuff. Everything works perfectly now and the price was reasonable. Would use him again."

"I feel *extremely lucky* to have found a Kranick Electric to upgrade the electrical service at my home, and to replace my dangerous and old Zinsco panels with safe panels that were up to code. See my two photos below for the "before and after" pictures. I received a very reasonable estimate, so I knew how much it was going cost right from the beginning. He showed up when he said he would, and completed the work ahead of schedule. He even hung a light fixture for me in my dining room while he was here. (Thank you!!) Daniel is most personable and professional you will ever meet. I highly recommend Daniel and Kranick Electric for any electrical work, big or small. I've been very happy with his work and will gladly have him back for anything electrical. Laurie Grass Valley"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, wire connectors are the better option for securing splices compared to electrical tape. It is not recommended to use electrical tape as it is not secure enough to keep the splices together. Plus, electrical tape is more vulnerable to damage, which can cause a risk of fire over time.

A ceiling light will usually have two or three wires: black, white, and sometimes green. Black wires are positive, or hot, while white wires are negative, or neutral. The green wire is the grounding wire.

When you’re wiring the light, connect black to black, white to white, and green to the grounding screw.

Amps describe the amount of energy that can flow through a circuit breaker. Every electrical device that’s attached to the breaker requires about 1.5 amps. While that equates to roughly 13 receptacles per 20 amps, using slightly fewer ensures that your circuit will always have enough energy for sudden power surges instead of tripping when one occurs. In general, 10 to 12 receptacles is recommended for a 20 amp circuit.

String lights require electricity, but not an excessive amount, especially when compared to other lighting fixtures. LED rope lights, for instance, consume around one watt per foot. Running six or seven light strings simultaneously should only cost you around $10 to $15 each month. You can save even more money by remembering to turn off your lights during daylight hours.

According to the National Electrical Code (NEC), GFCI outlets should be installed in wet or damp locations where they might be splashed with water or other liquids. This is to protect against ground faults, which are more common around water. Specific areas that require GFCI outlets include kitchens (especially near counters), bathrooms, laundry rooms, basements, garages, and all outdoor receptacles. Depending on local electrical codes, you may need at least one GFCI outlet in these rooms, or every outlet in the area may need to be GFCI protected.
