Customers say: Super punctual

"We needed to remove a cyclone fence covered with 30 years of ivy and have a 100 ft long, 6 ft tall cinder block wall built in its place. Mike was able to take on our project within a month, and completed it within a week. Great price, excellent wall, crew was great, highly recommend!"

"This is the second time I've hired Del Mar for my landscaping needs and I would hire them again in a heartbeat. They've managed to turn my overgrown, junky backyard into a beautiful oasis. They removed all of the ugly, weed-infested planters I had and put down a high quality artificial turf. They also made sure my palm trees were removed from their cracked pots and planted into the ground, and help me replace a dead orange tree. Everything looks fantastic now. Before the end of the year, I plan to have them help me turn and overgrown area behind my garage into a hidden private grotto with a jacuzzi and gazebo."

"I called Pacific Outdoor Living/Pacific Pavingstones due to their high ratings on Angie's List and the description on their website. The salesman, Mark, came out and gave us a quote on installing pavers and a drainage system, as well as doing grading to lower the dirt against the house.  During this meeting, I informed him my concerns were getting the water away from the house and enclosed porch.  Mark did not oversell work we did not need and thought our existing rock wall should stay assuring me fixing the stones would be no problem for his crew.  He promptly gave me a itemized quote which I liked and said they could start within a couple weeks.
What I like about the website for Pacific Outdoor Living/Pacific Pavingstones was that it stated that the workers were all in house employees and there was always a project manager on site for questions.  This was not true.  The work was sub-contracted and Mark, nor any other representative for POL, was conveniently on hand during the work.  I was told by Mark to communicate my concerns with Jose, the foreman, but due to the his heavy accent it was somewhat difficult to communicate.  On the positive side, Jose did have a background in civil engineering and came up with a better idea for our drainage issue than planned but this was not conveyed to us until we showed concern that he was not going according to the plan.  He ended up not having to do the grading that was listed on the contract because of these changes.
In the end the foreman did a good job with the paver cuts, but in many areas concrete was splattered on the pavers when cleaning the equipment.  I did not notice the splatter until after Mark sealed them himself.  When I called him to ask about it, he said that he had noticed the stains but had hoped sealing them would make them less noticeable.  He then said he would call the foreman, Jose, to come and fix the problem.  The day I had this conversation was May 18th and I still have not heard back. In addition, the wall that was promised to be fixed by Mark was not done due to the sub-contractor's team "running out of time."
Mark also admitted he had his own company called Integrated Paver Systems.  I would not recommend them either due to Mark's false promises during the sale process and lack of informing me of the stains when sealing them.

Concrete Walls questions, answered by experts

In most cases, you will need a building permit for cement work on your property. You need a permit for any project that adds a permanent foundation on your property—which, in most cases, includes even a flat slab of concrete poured directly on the ground. Building permits for concrete projects usually cost between $100 and $500, although this can get higher for larger projects. You can always ask your cement company if a permit is necessary for your project, and the expert will typically pull the permit for you to save you time and energy.

Yes, you can pour the footings for your foundation and the foundation system itself together, in which case the footing acts as the foundation. Some common examples of foundations where you might pour the footings simultaneously include floating slab foundations and monolithic slab foundations. Both lack traditional footings underneath the slab, so these foundation types are considered footings.

Costs depend on material type, labor rates, and additional features like decorative finishes or reinforcement.

Yes, you should hire a mason who’s licensed, certified, and insured, if possible. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local mason guidelines.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Certified” badge. Angi Certified businesses meet our standards for certification, which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Most of the time, you or your contractor will spray the concrete form and framework with a release agent or oil to prevent sticking. This is common practice with wood and steel forms. For insulated concrete forms, the styrofoam formwork often remains in place after construction, so you don’t need to treat it beforehand. Foam concrete forms made out of melamine also may not need treatment beforehand, as the material naturally won’t stick to the concrete after it’s cured.
