Customers say: Quick response

"We needed our 25 year old sofabed reupholstered, and Parker Upholstery did a wonderful job! We went to their store to pick out fabric, they told us that they could get to it in about six weeks. When the time came, they called to schedule a pickup, came to our house to get the sofa, had it for about a week and a half, and delivered us back a sofa that was better than new. Worth every penny, I'd use them again in a heartbeat."

"Larry's Custom Furniture was recommended many times over on my area's Nextdoor website, so I began to research what I might have done before I called to get an estimate. I purchased a sofa and 3 arm chairs (used but high end) and wanted to get an assessment of their current shape and potential. Larry himself made a house call, tested them out, answered my questions, and brought books of fabric swatches. It became clear I could go any number of ways with fabric type, color, slipcovers or upholstered, self-purchase fabric or utilize Larry's fabric suppliers. After a very deep dive down the rabbit hole of fabric; types, durability, online sourcing to a person NOT in the trade, varied quality of materials...(this took me 8 months) I ventured back to Larry's workshop armed with even more questions. Plus, the additional mitigating factor that now I had adopted a stray CAT (!). Larry gave me practical advice about colors (CA sun) and loopy, open weave fabrics (cats just looooove those)....and so I settled on slipcovers. Then I set out to find good quality/washable/tightly woven durable cotton in colors/patterns I could live with. I never gave up and Larry answered my every question patiently, taking time to go over my choices with me when I popped into his shop unannounced. He was my Upholstery Guru and I learned sooooo much that my friends grew weary of me talking furniture construction, down vs fiber and foam fill, fabric designers and mills, and an overall knowledge and provenance of where furniture actually comes from and the debate over new vs. vintage. It was quite the journey. I was not on a strict timeline, so if Larry got a big custom job, I was fine to wait. But when I landed a 6 month job in NYC he managed to deliver all my furniture before I departed and it was beautiful, I loved the seeming miracle of how it all came together and fit into my vision, with the craftsmanship and skills evident in all aspects of the work. I went on to also have my new dining room chairs slipcovered and springs replaced. Beautiful and practical, for life with a cat. Larry never tried to upsell me nor make inflated promises on when I could expect delivery. SO... if you are impatient, or have specific time constraint expectations, maybe this is not for you. It all can depend on the ebb and flow of business and there are times where he gets bombarded trying to fulfill multiple orders, fill the desperate pre-Holiday requests, and a lot of other scenarios. That happens when someone is worth the wait and why he has many longtime and very satisfied repeat customers. Count me among those."

Small jobs welcome

"Nancy responded IMMEDIATELY upon seeing my post. A face-to face meeting followed shortly afterward, where she arrived with a grocery cart filled with fabric samples !! There was SO much to choose from! Once the fabric was selected, the loveseat was collected promptly and within little more than a week, returned to me—like new! Very nice attention to all the detail associated with upholstering."

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

The style and age of your Pasadena home influence upholstering choices. Craftsman and Spanish Colonial homes often benefit from period-appropriate fabrics, while modern layouts may call for stain-resistant or easy-clean materials. Outdoor entertainment spaces require weatherproof fabrics due to Pasadena’s climate. If your property is in a historic district, check for guidelines on exterior furniture appearance to ensure compliance during restoration projects.

Helpful?

In Pasadena, faded or brittle fabric from sun exposure, sagging or uneven padding, and seams pulling apart are clear signs upholstery may need attention. Persistent odors, excessive dust, or visible pet hair can indicate deep-seated issues. After wildfire season, smoke damage or lingering smells often mean it’s time for furniture restoration. Watch for cracked or dry fabric, especially on older or antique pieces.

Helpful?

Coordinating upholstering with other upgrades, like repainting or installing new window treatments, can streamline your Pasadena home projects and protect new fabrics from dust or paint fumes. Scheduling during spring, when the weather is mild, helps materials cure properly and makes it easier to work with local professionals. Combining projects also ensures a cohesive design and minimizes disruption to your daily routine.

Helpful?

In Pasadena, living room sofas, dining chairs, and patio cushions are most likely to need upholstering due to frequent entertaining and the Mediterranean climate. Sun-exposed furniture, especially those near large windows or in sunrooms, often fades or weakens. Antique pieces in historic Pasadena homes may require furniture restoration, as the dry air and seasonal winds can accelerate fabric and padding deterioration.

Helpful?

In Pasadena, leaving windows open during Santa Ana winds can introduce dust and pollen, which settle into upholstery. Allowing pets on furniture, skipping regular vacuuming, and neglecting fabric protection treatments can also reduce longevity. Placing furniture in direct sunlight or near fireplaces, and using strong cleaners, can cause premature fading and wear—especially important in homes with active lifestyles or frequent gatherings.
