I am writing to express my extreme frustration regarding the ongoing toilet leak issue that has yet to be resolved, despite numerous attempts to rectify it. The problem began in February 2024, when my toilet started leaking and refilling its tank every 2 to 4 hours. Since March 18, 2024, I have had five appointments with your team to address this issue. I have paid a total of $545 for a new canister flush valve and a new toilet fill valve, yet the toilet continues to leak exactly the same way it did before. What is particularly disheartening is the lack of communication since August. I have repeatedly tried to reach out via email and phone, but my messages have gone unanswered (August to October). I chose your company based on your good ratings and the assumption that I would receive quality service from a licensed plumber. Unfortunately, my experience has been quite the opposite. It can take anywhere from half an hour to a few hours to fix a main line clog, depending on the cause and severity of it. The job should not take more than a day to complete. The toilet’s U-bend holds a small pocket of air, which can help a rat catch its breath before making its final push into your bathroom. While more common in cities with larger rat populations, this can happen anywhere with connected sewer systems; sealing entry points and keeping drains clean can help reduce the risk.

Regardless of the drain cleaner type you choose to use, they all work through chemical reactions that create heat. Thanks to the heat, the clogged hair begins to dissolve until it is able to be flushed away. To avoid clogs in your drain due to hair, use hair catchers and empty them out after every shower.

Thankfully, it’s pretty rare to find a rat in your toilet. It’s more likely in larger cities with big sewer systems that can be feeding grounds for rats, but even then, you still shouldn’t fret. 

“I wouldn’t worry too much about rats coming up through the sewers,” Bradshaw says. “I’d say only one out of a thousand rodent customers we get actually have this problem. And of the 20 or some customers that have had this happen, they’ve all only had just one rat come up this way.”
