"Chris Chapman, the owner, is a certified and very knowledgeable arborist. The crew did the work he prescribed under his guidance. The end result was excellent, I was also very pleased with clean up by the crew who minimized the mess leaving the area in very good shape. "P&J does fantastic work. I am more than pleased. Joe is an arborist and has keen knowledge of trees, when and how they should be pruned and groomed or even removed. P&J removed three trees and many shrubs, pruning and shaping many other trees. Stump grinding was done to the removed trees. His crew of seven and himself showed up on time at 8am and they were done at 1130am. Amazing! They are licensed, bonded and insured."

"The site assessment and quote were extremely easy and transparent due to a slick app that itemizes the tree removal by type of tree/trunk diameter, with photos, then automatically generates a quote. The crew showed up right on time and were done on schedule. Super happy with the work and would recommend to anybody looking for tree removal services in the East Bay!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

According to scientists at Penn State University, spotted lanternflies do not typically kill the trees and plants they feed on, but they can cause branches and segments to die off. However, they have been found to kill cultivated grapes, which can have devastating consequences for vineyard owners and regions that heavily rely on vineyards to create jobs and generate revenue. They have also killed the Ailanthu altissima, known as the tree of heaven, though this is classified as a noxious and invasive weed tree.

Tree roots can take weeks to years to die, depending on the method you use. Chemical herbicides take the least amount of time—typically between three and four weeks—while homemade methods, like covering an old stump with leaves, could take between seven and eight years. If you’re unsure which method to use or how quickly you need to act, consulting with a pro is always a good idea.

While the trees in your backyard are good for the environment and look beautiful, they could present a danger to your home under the wrong circumstances. This task is typically beyond the capabilities of the average homeowner due to its dangerous nature, so it’s best to leave this task to a professional. In some cities, it’s even illegal to remove a tree yourself.

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size.

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.

In most cases, your neighbor is responsible for roots from their tree that cause damage to your property. If your pavement, the foundation of your home, or a fence is damaged by roots from a neighbor’s tree, you likely will have legal recourse for financial relief. While it’s better to notify your neighbor of any problems you notice as soon as they arise to avoid costly damage, there are some instances where filing a civil suit is your only recourse. Your homeowner’s insurance company might wish to do so on your behalf if you file a claim.
