"Jose came to give us an estimate in one day and his crew completed the work the next day. We had a few estimates and P & J was the best price. Another company told us they were booking a month out. P & J did our job the next day. Prompt, courteous service and they didn’t leave any mess. Very pleased with how nice our trees look and we will have less falling leaves to clean up this Fall."

"It was a big job, the trees were probably over 30 ft tall and horribly overgrown and intertwined. They did a wonderful job and cleaned everything and replaced my statues leaving my yard emasculate. The price was what I expected and worth it. Very nice people, I will be calling them again for some more work next spring."

"This crew was very professional and respectful of our property. Not a tree limb hit the ground that wasn’t tied off and gently placed where it was suppose to be. Untied and carried out to the shredder. Clean up and replaced moved lawn furniture complete after tree was trimmed. Definatly will hire again!"

Customers say: Quality work

"No more than 5 minutes after I had submitted an inquiry to Horticultural Services, I was contacted by Chris. From the moment I spoke to him I could tell he was a professional. Him and his team showed up precisely on time, and took the utmost care in trimming large overhanging branches. The quality of work, timeliness, communication, and professionalism were impressive enough to encourage this review. They also are very fair with their cost and services. I would highly recommend Horticultural Services, and Chris, to anyone who needs tree or yard service. They will be my first, and only call for my future needs moving forward."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Late winter is ideal, but if you’re pruning apple trees in the spring, prune them as early as possible in the season. You want to ensure your tree is just creeping out of dormancy and hasn’t started pushing out new growth. If you prune your tree too late into spring, you generally won’t see results until the following year.

That said, there’s no pruning season for unhealthy growth. Remove dead, dying, or diseased branches as soon as you notice them, regardless of the time of year.

If tree branches cross well into your property line, in many cases, these branches become part of your property, and you can trim them up until your neighbor’s property line. However, this issue will vary based on local ordinances, so you should do your research before making any decisions. Better yet, speak with your neighbor about how to handle any tree issues.

If you don’t mind the branches, you can leave them be, but if they’re becoming a hazard, it’s definitely worth having a conversation.

Some people prefer to leave or even carve a leftover stump, but we recommend removing it if possible. You can often dig out smaller trunks with a shovel once they have died and dried out. You can have stumps professionally removed, or request a service to grind them down to ground level so they can be replaced with other landscaping or objects.

While it’s best to have access to large, healthy, strong trees in a safe position, treehouse living is still possible without them. Contractors can fit tree posts to build the structure onto or use posts as additional support alongside the trees themselves. If you’re in doubt about the suitability of the trees on your land, consult with a local treehouse builder before you start the project.

The speed of your tree root removal process depends on a few different factors, including the size and type of tree. However, the fastest method of killing tree roots is applying chemical herbicide, which starts working quickly and efficiently. But this removal method has its drawbacks, such as having a negative effect on the surrounding vegetation and landscaping. Other options like rock salt and stump grinding work relatively quickly and cause less damage to your yard.
