"Jose came to give us an estimate in one day and his crew completed the work the next day. We had a few estimates and P & J was the best price. Another company told us they were booking a month out. P & J did our job the next day. Prompt, courteous service and they didn’t leave any mess. Very pleased with how nice our trees look and we will have less falling leaves to clean up this Fall."

Customers say: Quality work

"No more than 5 minutes after I had submitted an inquiry to Horticultural Services, I was contacted by Chris. From the moment I spoke to him I could tell he was a professional. Him and his team showed up precisely on time, and took the utmost care in trimming large overhanging branches. The quality of work, timeliness, communication, and professionalism were impressive enough to encourage this review. They also are very fair with their cost and services. I would highly recommend Horticultural Services, and Chris, to anyone who needs tree or yard service. They will be my first, and only call for my future needs moving forward."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Tree pruning is a common and helpful tree maintenance technique that involves carefully cutting and trimming unwanted branches so that the tree can continue to grow and thrive. Pruning is done carefully and intentionally. Tree topping is a frowned-upon method that involves removing and cutting most or the entirety of the top of the tree, including structurally important branches.

It’s possible to transplant trees as tall as 50 feet when an experienced tree planting service uses the right equipment. However, a tree with a trunk larger than two or three inches in diameter needs to be handled by a professional in order to yield successful transplanting results. Consulting a tree planting professional is the best way to tell if your large tree can be safely transplanted.

Trees that flower in the spring—like dogwood, cherry, magnolia, and pear—should not be pruned during the winter. These spring-flowering plants grow buds on old growth, so you’ll actually remove what would’ve been gorgeous flowering foliage. Instead, wait to prune until right after they bloom, when the flowers fade.

If tree branches cross well into your property line, in many cases, these branches become part of your property, and you can trim them up until your neighbor’s property line. However, this issue will vary based on local ordinances, so you should do your research before making any decisions. Better yet, speak with your neighbor about how to handle any tree issues.

If you don’t mind the branches, you can leave them be, but if they’re becoming a hazard, it’s definitely worth having a conversation.

If you don’t cut down a dead, dying, or diseased tree, it can become a nesting place for pests like mosquitos, bees, beetles, wasps, fly larvae, and more. Some pests will live in the tree, while others will feed off the decaying wood. Unhealthy trees are also more likely to fall over, potentially injuring people and causing damage to your property.
