"Jose came to give us an estimate in one day and his crew completed the work the next day. We had a few estimates and P & J was the best price. Another company told us they were booking a month out. P & J did our job the next day. Prompt, courteous service and they didn’t leave any mess. Very pleased with how nice our trees look and we will have less falling leaves to clean up this Fall."

"Superior Tree Service is Superior tree service. From my initial phone call through the final cleanup my experience with Superior Tree Service was impeccable. Vicente and his crew were precise, conscientious, and went above and beyond my expectations. Vicente listened to my concerns and met them. His crew did exactly what I requested.. They stayed on task, completed the job, and cleaned the site perfectly. Without a doubt in my mind, I recommend Superior Tree Service for all your gardening and tree removal needs. Superior Tree Service deserves a 10 star rating."

"The site assessment and quote were extremely easy and transparent due to a slick app that itemizes the tree removal by type of tree/trunk diameter, with photos, then automatically generates a quote. The crew showed up right on time and were done on schedule. Super happy with the work and would recommend to anybody looking for tree removal services in the East Bay!"

"It was a big job, the trees were probably over 30 ft tall and horribly overgrown and intertwined. They did a wonderful job and cleaned everything and replaced my statues leaving my yard emasculate. The price was what I expected and worth it. Very nice people, I will be calling them again for some more work next spring."

"This crew was very professional and respectful of our property. Not a tree limb hit the ground that wasn’t tied off and gently placed where it was suppose to be. Untied and carried out to the shredder. Clean up and replaced moved lawn furniture complete after tree was trimmed. Definatly will hire again!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Completely topping a plum tree is a risky business. Cut too much, and you’ll kill your tree. That said, you do need to trim the top of your tree to encourage bushy growth, maintain your tree’s vase shape, and limit size.

A plum tree's central leader (or trunk) should never extend more than 3 feet above the highest branch. When you first plant your tree, cut the central leader so it’s 2 to 3 feet tall. As it grows, cut it back 12 to 20 inches until it reaches its desired height. Never prune more than one-third of the new growth.

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.

The felling notch you make before you make the final cut will determine which way the tree will fall. The cut will be in a wedge or triangle, and the tree will fall from the highest point of the triangle. You can use this, as well as the process described above, to estimate where a tree will fall.

Dying trees and even dead trees can spread diseases to other living trees. There are many different types of tree diseases, so it’s essential to address the issue as soon as possible to prevent the disease from spreading to other healthy trees. If the tree cannot be saved and is infected, you need to have it removed to protect the other trees on your property.
