"I read all the reviews before hired him, Gerardo. He is the best. I have the restroom ceiling and the shower drywalls fixed. They look so beautiful as the originals with smooth texture. I am very happy and feel so lucky. Gerardo is very friendly, nice, professional, and easy to work with because he cares. He thoroughly explained the repair process, gave recommendations about the aftercare, and other projects I might or should think about that I should consider in the future. Very honest. The work was well prepped, nice, neat, and cleaned up completely after all. He is very good at drywall, knows exactly what to do, so pro. Very reasonable too. Cannot thank him enough. My walls are so beautiful. After I paint them, I bet nobody knows there was a big ceiling hole before. Thank you, Gerardo."

"Incredible job, Joe showed up early and got straight to work. The work looks amazing, not only the drywall repair but the texturing. He was professional and personable, job was done efficiently and all the cleanup was handled before he left. I would absolutely use him again if I have any drywall issues."

"I’m Floyd Cooper, and I recently had the pleasure of working with Jorge and his incredible team at Unit Drywall for a complete renovation of my rental property at 8282 Moore Haven Way, 95828. From start to finish, their professionalism and craftsmanship truly stood out. Jorge and his crew tackled the renovation with impressive skill and efficiency. They completely remodeled all the bathrooms, transformed the entire flooring throughout the house, painted every room, and revamped the kitchen—all in record time. I was amazed at how quickly they delivered such high-quality work. What really impressed me was not just their speed, but the affordability of their services. They provided exceptional value without compromising on quality. It’s rare to find a team that combines skill, professionalism, and affordability so seamlessly. I wholeheartedly recommend Jorge and his crew to anyone looking for top-notch renovations. They are now my go-to for any future projects!!!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

A nail in drywall cannot hold very much—usually only a few pounds. A nail in a stud can add support and hold around 20 pounds. If you are trying to hang something heavier, get some help from drywall anchors—toggle bolts are very strong and able to withstand more weight.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

You’ll want to inspect your plaster walls for signs of damage before painting. If you notice soft spots, deep cracks, bubbling, or areas where the plaster is crumbling or pulling away from the wall, it likely needs repair. While small hairline cracks are common and likely cosmetic, you should address larger issues before painting to ensure a quality, smooth finish.

Plaster that sags or bulges, shows extensive deep cracks, or is crumbling from water damage or simply time may need replacement. Plaster walls can look a little “worn” for a long time before they need replacing. The only real way to know if it needs a replacement is to hire a professional to assess the condition of the plaster.

The cost to install drywall is between $1.50 and $3 per square foot, while shiplap installation costs between $2 and $7 on average. In most applications, shiplap installations cost more than that of putting in drywall. However, several ways exist to reduce shiplap prices, especially for small locations or accent walls, which can keep the total cost of shiplap competitive with that of drywall.
