"We had our roof replaced with GAF shingles by American Cool Roofing and the whole process was excellent. The crew was professional, efficient, and finished the job on time. The roof looks amazing and the quality of the work is very noticeable. Hailey provided outstanding customer service and kept us informed throughout the entire project. Highly recommend them!"

"I would like to say how pleased we were with the work Miller Roofing Services did for us but “pleased” just doesn’t cut it — we were totally impressed, as were a number of our neighbors who observed the workers over the course of the two days. Mark, the supervisor, and his 6 or 7-man** crew were timely, professional, well-organized, well-trained, well-supervised, accommodating, friendly, and seemingly inexhaustible. And their clean-up was impeccable. Had it not been for couple of old underlayment remnants caught in the tree canopy along the side of the house, we would never have known any roofing work had been done. We will gladly recommend Miller Roofing Services to my neighbors...and to anyone else who asks. **They never lit long enough for me to get an accurate head count. Always on the move, always working."

"Great response, on time, friendly, informative. My main problem was unsightly moss growth on tin shingles. Day of cleaning and treatment, roof looked significantly better. I need to wait a couple off weeks for the treatment to kill of the little that remains. I’m very happy"

"I recently had my roof replaced by Apollo Roofing and I can't be more excited about it. Not only were the workers super friendly and efficient (Alex especially) our project manager Chaim was on time and very professional. The roof didn't take long to replace, about 3 days which I appreciated seeing as the holiday was coming up quick. As most of you know the summer is a busy time for our little town, especially the 4th of July so having our roof done by the 1st was very important to us. I am really happy with the work, and we have seen no issues since the job was completed."

"Brazil Roofing was a wonderful team to work with for the repairs on our older roof. After the initial inspection, they sent us a number of photos showing the damage and a list of options for repairs along with the costs. The estimate was priced very fairly. Everything was straight forward. Setting up a time for work was no problem and they arrived, got the work completed in the allotted time. We had valleys and ridge caps repaired and underlayment replaced along with additional flashing around the chimney and dry-rot boards replaced. All this was done on a complex, concrete tile roof. Their work was great quality and they relieved a lot of stress and worry. I highly recommend this company."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

A standard roof can hold a live load of about 20 pounds per square foot. However, gable roofs often have steeper-than-average slopes, so calculating their weight capacity can be challenging. If the slope of your gable roof is greater than 4:12, the live load needs to be decreased to allow for a larger dead load. Ask your roofer exactly how much weight your roof can support.

You can negotiate roofing payment terms with a contractor, but if you’re working with a reliable, trustworthy roofing contractor, the quote they gave you is probably fair. It’s often not worth haggling over the cost of the job unless you feel it is particularly unfair. If you do, get quotes from other roofing companies to compare prices.

Many states require roofers to be licensed, and some states don’t mandate licensing. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to check if a roofing company holds the proper licensing for your area. A licensed roofing contractor will provide reliable roof installation service, leading to a reduced risk of leaks in the future, which can be expensive to repair. Paying more for a licensed roofer upfront often means paying less over time.

Concrete tile roofs last for an average of 50 years, but you could see more than that if you’re diligent about repairs, roof inspections, and maintenance to avoid major damages. Concrete tile roofs are prone to cracking, so they may not last as long without needing repairs in areas with extreme weather, especially hail.

Always inform your insurance company when you get a new roof. A new roof may entitle you to lower rates or discounts, and if you need to make a claim, they’ll have up-to-date information on your roof. You’ll need to provide documentation—ask your insurance agent what you need to submit to prove you had your roof replaced.
