"Excellent service from start to finish. He ground my demo floor thoroughly in preparation for the install, kept me updated throughout, and was courteous and punctual. The workmanship was top-notch and the site was left clean. Highly recommend for anyone needing floor prep or installation work. I don’t have a photo because drywallers have the floor covered up currently, but it’s basically perfectly ground and ready. It is normal to glue carpet down, though it’s not the only or the most popular method of installing carpet. Modern techniques include tack strips and stretching the carpet, but you might still find glued carpet in older homes or a home with a DIY’d past. Removing a glued-down carpet will be harder compared to other methods of installation.

You can expect your carpet protection to last about six months to two years. It will last longer in low-traffic areas (compared to busy areas, where your carpet experiences more wear and tear). Once the protector wears off, you’ll need to call your carpet contractor to reapply the stain protection treatment and revive your carpet. 

It’s possible to reuse household materials to cover floors, but they won’t provide the same level of protection as dedicated materials. They’re also more difficult to tape down and more prone to slipping and bunching up—and any dirt or debris on them could scratch or stain your floors. That being said, extra materials like these can be useful for protecting the sides of furniture and placing in areas that could use added protection.

In most cases, carpeting isn’t kind to the wood that it’s attached to. Most carpet installation uses adhesive or nailing strips, both of which will damage wood. Conversely, you can choose to use an adhesive designed to be removed from wood, in which case carpeting can actually protect your hardwood stairs.

Some root cellars are made with concrete, but a dirt floor may be better for your crops' longevity. Dirt can help maintain an appropriate temperature and humidity level, while the concrete might suck up all the moisture. Dirt floors can also bring down the overall cost of your root cellar. But, if you’re going with a dirt floor, make sure you properly insulate between your house and the root cellar.
