"The owner Gabriel is a top notch guy and craftsman. His employee Ricky on our project is very meticulous finish carpenter. They showed up everyday until project was complete. They installed cabinets and moldings.....cannot say how happy we are. Do not be afraid to call Gabriel, pricing very reasonable and workmanship is excellent."

"I hired Mr Patterson to remodel a 33 tear old bathroom and make it into a rolling shower with non slippery floors for my 95 year old mother. Ben Patterson went out of his way to acommodate our likes and needs. We had great communication, he understood what I needed done and I must say the end project was more beautiful than what I had expected. Kudos to this wonderful contractor and his crew!! I am extremely satisfied with the project and would hire him again for more projects around the house. I love our new bathroom and so dies my 95 year old mother!! Thank you Ben and everyone else who worked on the bathroom remodeling!!"

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Many modern homes have soffits, but older ones don’t, and you may be wondering why. Older homes have eaves that extend further beyond the home and help to circulate air, negating the need for a soffit. This style of building has faded away, therefore, modern homes need separate soffit installation. Modern soffits are more efficient than this older style and require less material to construct, saving homeowners money.

Labor plays a significant role in the installation of butcher block countertops. Depending on who you hire, your location, the customization level of the project, and whether the wood is already finished, you may pay a professional between $10 and $150 per square foot to install a butcher block countertop. On average, expect the per-hour price to run between $60 and $100.

Some states require carpenters to be licensed to perform forms of carpentry, such as framing. The license requires a certain amount of experience and to pass an examination. In states that don’t require carpenters to be licensed, they must be licensed as a contractor if they work independently rather than solely as a subcontractor under a licensed builder. Use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to find out whether a potential carpenter is licensed in your state.

Board and batten is a type of wainscotting that uses wider boards that are placed vertically, and it has a much more rustic aesthetic than wainscotting. Common wainscotting styles are raised-panel, flat-panel, and beadboard. Wainscotting is more intricate and will typically use more elegant, subtle trims compared to the more farmhouse-inspired boards of board and batten styles.

The boards between floor joists are called bridging or blocking boards. These are the shortest pieces of wood in the flooring system—with beams being the longest and joists sitting somewhere in the middle—and they serve to reinforce the joists and help provide even support to the flooring above. Bridging specifically helps cut down on uneven and creaking floors in your living area.
