"Needed a new sliding door since ours was old and constantly got stuck. We hired Ameristar and they were so professional. From booking the service, to purchasing the best sliding door, to the installation, everyone was so honest, polite and accommodating to the needs of my home. Now I have a sliding door that is quiet and opens and closes smoothly. Would definitely recommend hiring them if you need any new windows or sliding doors!!"

"They proposed a less expensive option, install retro windows from a local and less expensive company rather than replace my windows with more expensive windows from a well known maker with a much better warranty. Sounded good but the saving was negligible and made no sense at all. So no deal!"

Windows questions, answered by experts

Garden windows last about 15 to 30 years, depending on the materials, ongoing maintenance, and local climate. Fiberglass and wood windows tend to have the longest life spans as long as you keep up with cleaning, lubricating, and refinishing them. Make sure to inspect your windows about once a year for signs of trouble, like worn-out seals, frame damage, or cracks in the panes.

Bow windows need support because they are large and extend out from the exterior wall of the home. Bow windows may extend 1 foot to several feet from the outside of the home, so you’ll need to provide additional support to handle this weight. A window contractor will be able to provide the proper amount of support for your new bow window.

Windows last between 15 and 30 years on average. The glass tends to last for around 20 years, while the frames last up to 50 years. This varies by the type of window frame material, glass quality, location, and level of maintenance. Wood frames have the shortest lifespan and require repainting or resealing every couple of years, while fiberglass has one of the longest lifespans.

New window installation costs range from $300 to $1,500 per window, depending on size, material, and energy efficiency features.

Common problems include broken latches, misaligned tracks, and worn seals. Regular inspection prevents major repairs.
