I'm Koby Grimes and I've been doing Remodels and Handyman Services in Riverside County since 2008. My mission is to provide high-quality construction services, all my work has a 1 year warranty, and some projects have a lifetime warranty. I started this business because I love building, creating, and fixing things. Thats why Koby Grimes Construction is my current life journey.

"In a word, "terrible"! Koby had done a couple of small jobs previously, and they were fine, however, when we presented him with fixing a leak in our portico roof, it was a total disaster. The first time he tried to fix it, he was up there an hour or two and when finished he stated that after he "sealed" a piece of metal in place, it shouldn't leak again - even though drops of water were still coming out of the roof right after he "fixed" the issue. He stated that the water I was seeing was water that was in the roof before he sealed it, but that we shouldn't be seeing another leak again. A few days later, we had a day or two of significant rain, and the roof leaked just like it had before it was "fixed" - it was like there had been no improvement in the least. When I contacted Koby about this, he came out to take a look and told me what he would try the next time he was able to do the job. I was shocked that he charged us over $200.00 just to come out and inspect a job that he did not do correctly the first time. We ended up rescheduling further work, and although he kept saying he could fix the issue, he seemed uneasy about it, and he told me that he was "warned" by someone he consulted with, not to do the job. Why, I don't know. So, I know he was uneasy about doing the job, but he kept saying he could fix it, so I trusted him. On the morning he was scheduled to be at my home to do the work, he contacted me to say that one of his truck tires was making a noise and he was taking it in to be looked at - saying later that the garage told him it was wheel bearings, and that he had to cancel the job until his truck was fixed. That was over two weeks ago. When I contacted him today he stated that his truck still hadn't been fixed and he didn't know when it would be. I asked him what type of truck he needed to do the job. He told me and I then asked him if it was possible to rent a truck, at my expense, just to get this job done (we have been waiting over a month now from the first time I called him). He said that, yes, it would be possible to rent a truck, but transferring the tools between trucks would be a "hassle" and not part of his "routine." So, after waiting over a month to get a job completed, that was not done correctly the first time, and offering a workable solution (that Koby rejected) in order to complete the job, I have decided to move on to someone who is dependable and trustworthy. I do not recommend using Koby Grimes for your home repair needs."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.

There are several low-maintenance shower floor tiles to consider for your bathroom. Stone tiles are easy to keep clean and only need an occasional resealing to keep them looking their best. Porcelain is another low-maintenance choice, as it doesn’t stain easily. Vinyl is also suitable for easy upkeep. On the other hand, one of the highest maintenance options for bathrooms is wood tile.

You cannot tile directly over hot mop waterproofing because tile requires a smooth, solid surface to adhere properly. Additionally, the shower bed pan needs to be raised and sloped toward the drain to prevent water from pooling. However, you can hot mop and apply a sloped mortar bed over the top (to which the tile can then be adhered).

Tile floor installation costs about $1,900 on average. The low end of the price range is about $400 up to about $6,000 or more on the high end. Several cost factors include the size of the area, the shape of the floor, the complexity of the pattern, the type of tile chosen, and labor rates in your area. Additional cost factors include the amount of preparation needed and any additional materials like subfloor or backer board.

When cleaning porcelain tiles, avoid products that contain ammonia, bleach, and other harsh chemicals. Acid-based cleansers can damage the tile, though you can clean them with a diluted mixture of one-quarter cup white vinegar mixed with one gallon of hot water. It is important always to use a soft-bristled brush or sponge, since hard bristles and steel wool can scratch the tile.
