"The salesman was chummy; the bid submitted was in the middle of the pack pricewise. With Brower's great reputation that was enough for us. Before we committed the salesman threw in a free upgrade of one A/C from 2 tons to 3 tons and offered to enlarge our upstairs air return (the 3-ton A/C was for upstairs) to improve airflow. This was done over the phone - a key point. The next step was a pre-site inspection. No problems arose, and I asked the guy if we really needed to replace our existing Lux thermostats - as the salesman had said - and this guy said we didn't need to. I mentioned the salesman upgraded the upstairs A/C to 3 tons and this guy suggested we get that in writing on a revised bid that removed the thermostats. We did so; the new bid was $200 less. Next was the install. When scheduling it I said that we could not let workmen in before 9AM because we have to drop kids off at different schools at 8:30. I also wrote this on a fax I sent the day before the job started as I had heard nothing to confirm they knew this. At the end of that same day I called to touch base on the time constraint as I still had heard nothing; I got a different salesman who said he'd let the installers know since they usually start at 7AM. At 7:20AM the next day the installers arrived, oblivious to our time restriction. They started outside and we let them in the garage - but not the house - while we were shuttling kids. We let them in the house at 8:45 and things went smoothly from there. At day's end I asked when they were going to enlarge the air return and they were all "Huh? You better call the sales guy and get his OK on that". I did and I got an EARFUL from him. The salesman was irate that I was asking him to back up his verbal commitment to enlarge the air return for free; he was mad that I couldn't let his guys in at 7:20, asking "How fair is that? I paid my guys to do nothing for 2 hours in the morning and you ask me for this?" He finally, grudgingly relented. But I have NEVER been so insulted by a contractor, and we have used LOTS of contractors. The second day of install was smooth. The guys showed up at 9AM, worked late and did an extra task - covering outside pipes to the A/Cs with a sheet metal cover - which I asked for as a paid change to the bid the prior day. There was stucco and drywall touchup remaining but overall I was pleased with the work. The installers even included extras where needed despite the extras not being explictly included in the bid. They cared about doing it right; cost was not a concern. But the horror that I met when I went into the attic later! Debris all over - screws, straps, sheet metal pieces, even 4' of old metal ducting they had replaced just sitting there. I spent 2 hours cleaning up, and was so mad I sent an email to Brower with lots more detail than this. Brower responded with gusto and did what was needed to rectify the situation, fixing about 6 small issues I had found."

"They had a good program for heating and A/C like for $100 they come out and check in the fall to make sure the heating is running right and again in the spring to make sure the A/C is working right. They did their job. It was cheaper than anyone else and I got 2 services. The only thing they could do better is give me free heating and air conditioning."
Our team at Bonney helped restore flow at this Sacramento home by performing a sewer spot repair on the main line for our customer. This involved locating the problem area, digging the trench, snaking the line to clear the drain, repairing a section of the sewer pipe, and then backfilling the space to restore back to the original landscape.

"Air conditioning in one zone stopped working over very hot weekend.  Called three companies to get a quote on possibly replacing both zones before I spent money on repairing a 17+ year old unit.
Diamond was the first company with availability.  Before they came over to give a quote, Bob called to ask me a few questions about the nature of the problem.  He speculated over the phone of what the problem might be and what the cost of fixing it would be.
He arrived for the appointment at the appointed time and proceeded immediately to fix the unit while talking to me about an estimate to replace both zones (2 systems).  He spent extra time hunting down an electrical connection issue in the unit and when done, checked out the flow readings of the system.
$258 dollars fixed the problem.  Since I had scheduled him for a quote, he offered to remove the new part that he had just installed or I could leave it in and if I decided to buy a new system, they would credit the repair of this unit back against it.  I elected to have him leave the fix in place.
Bob quoted me an exceptionally good price per unit for a quality Lennox system.  In fact a competitor who came the following day said that he wanted to see a copy of a written quote because Diamond's price was too good.
Although I've decided for the time being to not replace both systems, I would select Diamond Heating and Air in a second!

"The team of four was very professional and performed an excellent job in a record period of time. Just one day to take the old furnace away, replace all the old boots and duct work and install the new furnace. They paid a lot of attention not to damage or dirty the floor/carpet. I am very happy with their performance. They may not be the cheapest on the block but it was all worthed and you only have to do that once in your lifetime."

"This was a two day job. The two men, Willie and Jose, who did the work were competent, courteous, and professional. They were responsive to our questions, did a good job of tidying up, and worked diligently. I think the work went very well. Installation was completed yesterday, and so far everything seems to be fine. Willie and Jose were knowledgeable about what had to be done and understood our concerns. We have no complaints at all, and would recommend them to friends and family who need HVAC work done."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Most home boilers will need an expansion tank. That’s because these boilers are closed-loop systems, where the water is trapped. An expansion tank is needed when the boiler heats the water and it expands, allowing air to condense in the tank to make room for the water. Other types of boilers don’t use an expansion tank, such as traditional steam boilers, but these aren’t as common. And hot water tanks may be able to use a pressure release valve instead. When in doubt, call in a pro to take a look.

The average cost to replace or install a new HVAC system is around $7,500. However, the price can range from $5,000 to $12,500, depending on factors like the size of your home, the type and brand of the unit, and your specific heating and cooling needs. If you only need to replace certain components, the cost will be lower; for example, a new AC unit can cost between $2,200 and $5,500, while a new furnace costs $3,200 to $6,000. If additional work like new ductwork is required, the total cost could be as high as $22,000. It's best to contact a local HVAC company for an accurate quote.

When winter rolls around, and you turn the heat on for the first time in a year, it’s normal to sense a light odor. This could smell a little like burning because some dust has gathered in the heating unit over the warm months and will fade away shortly after. However, there are some smells you should watch out for and take caution around: an egg-like sulfur smell or an electrical burn odor would indicate there’s something wrong. Turn it off and call a professional for maintenance as soon as possible.

An HVAC system typically lasts between 10 and 30 years, with an average lifespan of 15 to 25 years. The longevity of the system is influenced by factors such as the quality of the unit, usage frequency, local climate, and how well it is maintained. Regular maintenance, including cleaning, filter replacements, and professional inspections, can help maximize its lifespan. Different components within the system have varying life expectancies. For example:

  • Furnaces: 15 to 30 years

  • Boilers: 20 to 35 years

  • Air Conditioners (AC units): 12 to 20 years

  • Heat Pumps: 10 to 20 years

  • Ductless Mini-Splits: 10 to 30 years

The best time of year to purchase or replace an HVAC system, including components like an air conditioner or furnace, is during the off-season—spring and fall. During these periods, HVAC professionals are less busy than in summer and winter, when extreme temperatures create urgent demand. Shopping during the off-season can lead to savings of 10% to 15% on an AC unit and allows you more time to find the best deal and other cost-saving incentives. Typically, air conditioning units go on sale in the fall after demand drops, while furnace prices tend to decrease in the spring.
