"Victor was punctual, showed up on the day as promised, removed old fence materials, installed steel posts. Next day brought all new materials and by the fourth day all installed and left the place clean. i was impressed with the service. My wife who was concerned at first with the old fence removed but then she was happy to see the new fence in place in short time. Victor is true professional and reliable handyman/contractor. Victor also helped fixing my leaking shower valve soon after the fence installation."

Customers say: True professional

"We hired McCormick to remodel our master bathroom, and the process couldn’t have been smoother. Khaled guided us through everything, and his team was skilled and respectful. They handled the job efficiently, stayed within budget, and kept our home tidy. Now, our bathroom feels like a relaxing oasis, with high-quality finishes and a modern touch we love. McCormick’s attention to detail really made the difference, and I’d gladly hire them for future remodels. This experience was everything we hoped for."

Small jobs welcome

"This company was one of the first to respond after putting out my request for work on HomeAdvisor. Wil is a very personable business man, his client relations staff is wonderful and they were able to begin work on the project in a reasonable amount of time from first point of contact. I loved the fact that Wilâ s company took on my smaller kitchen project, as most companies had a threshold amount of $4k and didnâ t want to be bothered. Wil has excellent contractors and walked through project with me upon completion. Heâ s got got my future business!"

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

If you plan to put a fire pit on a grassy area, be sure to put compacted paver sand down first to help level out the ground and add better heat protection. If you’re placing a fire pit on hardscaping, like a concrete patio, consider placing a fire pit mat down first. This can add more protection from the heat and also protect the look of your hardscaping if you choose to remove the fire pit in the future.

A hot fire alone will not remove significant creosote buildup and can be dangerous, as it risks causing a chimney fire. While the warmth from a fire can help loosen stuck tar, making treatments like creosote logs more effective, it is not a substitute for proper cleaning. For existing creosote, the safest and most effective method is to have your chimney professionally cleaned by a chimney sweep.

You might be able to turn a normal door into a fire-rated door, but you’re better off purchasing one that meets all NFPA 80 standards. If you want to DIY a normal door into a fire door, you’ll need a self-adhesive intumescent seal, metal hinges, fire-resistant glazing, and a self-closing device, but you’re always better off buying a certified fire door.

If your hardwired smoke alarm keeps going off, it could be because the backup battery needs replacing. When replacing the battery doesn’t stop your smoke alarm from beeping, try holding the reset button for 15 to 30 seconds or removing dust from the openings in the alarm. If it continues to chirp, it could be faulty and require replacement.

You can install your own fire door, but since it’s a safety measure in your home (and often the only way to passively slow down a fire), you should rely on professional door installers. These contractors know exactly what to do and how to do it, and in our opinion, their costs are worth every penny.
