"We are renovating our house in Los Angeles and are doing 5 bathrooms, steam shower, kitchen and outside porches. While our tile designer picked the tile and created the design, Gustavo did a great job in helping us make those small decisions like which grout to use and where to end walls. The installation work was exceptional and we are super happy with the results."

"I have over 2400 square feet that had different tile in each room. This company came in and got to work immediately. They DONâ T play. Within three full days, they had removed all the old tile, leveled out the floor and installed new luxury vinyl planks throughout my entire home. We had Ricardo leading the demo team and Sergio leading the install team. These guys were fast, communicating with me the whole time, very knowledgeable and super respectful. It was actually a very easy process from start to finish and my floor is BEAUTIFUL! I wake up smiling as soon as I put my foot down and open my eyes. I would recommend them to my friends and family and use them again for any flooring project in the future. I couldnâ t be happier!"

"Very thorough job, upfront with price, very friendly workers and communicative during the process. Nice tile work done on our backsplash and repaired a poor job from another vendorâ s mistakes with our countertop. Highly recommend using this family run business."

"The Empire floor installation crew was fantastic. Everyone in uniform, professional but very friendly. They moved all furniture and put it all back. The tile install was contracted out. Their workmanship was equally excellent. I wish that crew had cleaned up a little better. We had to clean the tiles ourselves when they left. But their craftsmanship was excellent. Every cut is precise and even. Love our new look"

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

You can technically install tile over tile, but we don’t suggest it. Installing tile over any surface that isn’t a completely flat and prepared subfloor will result in a shoddy overall job, uneven flooring, tiles that don’t adhere, extra weight, gaps, cracks, and room for moisture and dirt to enter. For the best results, only install new tile on a flat, sanded surface like subflooring or concrete that is prepared for tile.

If you have asbestos tile and would rather tile over it than remove it, or if your existing tile is completely flat and bonded tightly to the floor, you may be able to tile over existing tile. But experts recommend thinking twice before you do.

Yes, even if you’re being careful, removing tile can damage your drywall to some degree. However, you can minimize the damage done to it by eliminating a majority of the grout and taking your time prying each tile off. Also, it's worth noting that you might have more drywall damages to deal with if your tile is set into the mortar.

It’s important to leave a gap in the corner when tiling to allow room for tile expansion. Leaving between one eighth of an inch to one tenth of an inch is enough space.

The grout shade you choose comes down to personal taste and preference. A darker grout will give you a more dramatic and noticeable contrast with the tile around it; however, lighter grout helps create a more uniform look when blending the colors together. Additionally, a darker grout combined with a patterned tile could be overwhelming to the eye, while lighter grout makes the pattern stand out as the main focus.

Mortar and thinset both serve the same purpose—tile adhesion—but have different compositions and use-cases. Thinset is heatproof and presents a wide range of possibilities due to the added polymers. Mortar is typically used for bonding stones and brick. Thinset is rarely used outside, while mortar is rarely used inside.
