"Our first flood flooded due to main pipe blockage and since it was in the middle of the night we went with another company that the plumber had suggested. We quickly felt uncomfortable working with that company as they were very secretive about pricing (saying that their prices differ depending on if the insurance is paying for it or if we're paying for it). We found Water Damage Recovery on Angie's list and it was night and day compared to the other company. They are super responsive and friendly (the Project Manager answers his cell phone and gets back to you right away). They were so transparent and upfront with all the costs. Their estimate was really close to what the true cost came out to be (+/- $100). The guys who came out to the house were extremely cordial and clean. They were able to make suggestions and give me sound advice without making me feel pressured to do anything. I appreciated that they knew I was pretty conservative in terms of what needed to be demo-ed and what we can salvage (without it being a future risk), and they worked around my concerns and gave me alternatives. Their billing department is super friendly as well and was extremely willing to work with me to understand the pricing.

"Nato came on a Thursday and did an initial estimate. He was very clear that the garden would look a little bare for a few weeks as he'd have to cut things back pretty far. His estimate was 1/2 that of the other companies we talked to, and he was willing to come on the weekends, which made things much easier for us. He came back just three days later (on a Saturday) and two of his men spent 8 hours here. They left with a truck overflowing with trimmings, and even removed a small tree for us. Nato supervised them at the beginning and end, and the team was great to work with (we were working in the front yard while they were in the back) - extremely helpful and courteous. Total bill was just what he said - $500. We also gave each of the two guys a tip (though we were never asked to do so and I didn't even detect a hint of expecting one). The cleanup looks great though, as he cautioned, things are a little barren while we wait for them to grow back. For large cleanup jobs, this company is excellent. Though I use an all organic company for regular maintenance now (I would use Nato if I was not so into organic gardening), I will certainly call Nato and his team for the next large job. "I recently inherited an old run-down house in Berkeley.  The house required quite extensive repair and remodeling.  I was faced with the daunting task with finding a contractor and getting it done.  Through Angie?s List, I contacted Todd with T James Construction.  After a number of conversations, we put together a strategy for tackling the job.  The project was broken up into three phases:  foundation and earthquake retrofitting, structural repair (replace windows, repair stucco, replace roof, upgrade electricity) and finally, everything else which was quite an extensive list including: remodeling a bathroom, refinishing the floors, repairing balcony, installing wrought iron railings and numerous other tasks.
The foundation and earthquake retrofitting was completed by Dec 2011 and was previously reviewed (All A?s!)
The second phase of work took longer than expected and unfortunately, more budget.  While preparing to install new windows, they discovered extensive rot and had to rebuild a good third of the house. 
The final phase included a remodeled bathroom which is beautiful, and exactly what I wanted.  They were able to salvage the original oak floors and they were refinished to a warm glow. 
Todd is very easy to talk to and was always available (even after hours) for questions, advise, coaching, cheerleading and therapy.  He has assembled a crew that is very talented, professional and polite.  Each one, Cale, Mark, Forrest and Omar bring their own specialties.  They are very hard working and take pride in their jobs.  Each day, they left the work areas clean and in order.  They also were made themselves available to discuss details and answer any questions.
 I think the thing that impressed me the most was the finished details.  Both Cale and Mark are artists in their own right.  As a finish carpenter, Cale added moldings and details which elevated the final result.  The wrought iron railings that Mark constructed are exquisite, adding an elegance to the house.
During a project of this scope, there were bound to be set backs and changing priorities. Each was dealt with practical solutions,
openness and a bit of humor!
I lived in the house during the construction.  Todd and his crew were very patient and sensitive to my space and while next to impossible, they tried to keep the disruption to a minimum. 
The end result is that I have a beautiful house.  It turned out better than I could have imagined.  I am looking forward to a
continued relationship with Todd and his crew to complete renovations.
