"Tony and crew were great. The appropriate door was installed beautifully and the fence was fixed better than new. They were prompt, work was done quickly and thoroughly. We are also having him quote on doing our bathrooms and floors. In the quote process he gave recommendations to improve what we want done. This is intended to be a great recommendation."

"David, at CA Cabinets was great, he and his installers showed on time, they were carful to be neat and clean up after the job was done. "I hired Kyle for a $14,000 home remodeling project based on reviews from Angie's List and Yelp, and overall, I am satisfied with the work Kyle and his team performed and I feel like I got my money's worth. Below are my thoughts: 1. Timeliness: Kyle's crew showed up on time every day and stuck to the schedule. The entire project stayed mostly on track. Things were slightly delayed due to city inspection, but that was a factor beyond Kyle's control. So definitely an A there. 2. Quality of work - I had three major projects in this remodeling, and below are my thoughts on them: a. Conversion of a bedroom into a mudroom/entry room to garage: For some reason this new house I bought did not have an access door from garage directly into the house, so I hired Kyle to remedy this by turning a bedroom that shares a common wall with the garage into a mud room with an access door. Job involved cutting the wall open and installing a fire rated entry door, as well as removing old wall paper and repainting the room. This job was done very well and definitely an A there. b. Bathroom remodeling: I also had Kyle remove an old bathtub & tile surround and replace it with a new jacuzzi tub, new tiles and an updated tub door. We also had the toilet repositioned as well. Final quality of work was very nicely done and we were very pleased with how the new tiles turned out. Regrettably, the new bath tub got a small 1" size scratch on one of the rim and I had to touch up paint it afterwards. So A-/B+ there due to my new tub getting scratched up during tile installation. c. House electrical upgrade: I had Kyle and his crew installing an 100 amp subpanel with 2x 50 amp outlets in the garage for EV charging. I also had multiple new outlets installed throughout the house. All the newly installed outlets worked very well and I am pleased with the results. However, after all the electrical work were done, three of my outlets in the house lost power due to a "open neutral". To make a long story short, Kyle's crew tried to trouble shoot it for the better part of a day but couldn't figure out what caused it. All the worker could say is that he doesn't think it was caused by their work. As this happened at the very end of the entire remodeling project and I was uncertain whose fault it was, I ended up just letting it go. Subsequently I did more troubleshooting on my own and after several hours of trial-and-error testing using a multimeter, I found a loose neutral wire in a bathroom switch box Kyle's crew worked on. The loose neutral wire was covered up by a bunch of other wire and wire nuts in the switch box. Once that wire was reconnected, the three dead outlets became functional again. My guess is that the wire got shaken loose when Kyle's crew swap out the switches in that box with new light and fan switches, and no one realized it because that wire was buried behind other wires. I can understand how Kyle's worker missed it while trying to trouble shoot this issue. However, I'm still a bit miffed that I end up having to fix this problem myself. Thus, while the newly installed outlets are great, I am not too thrilled with the fact that his worker knocked a wire loose while changing out bathroom switches and couldn't fix the problem. So on this part of the project, I would give Kyle's team an A on the new outlets and C for causing collateral damage on my other outlets that I had to fix myself. 3. Conclusion - other than the problems with the loose neutral wire and the scratch to the new tub noted above, everything else went smoothly. Thus, in light of the scope of this remodeling project, I decided that these two issues are minor and don't detract too much from the overall success. Thus, I ended up giving Kyle and his crew an A- overall."

"I could not have asked for a better introduction to home remodeling and construction. Ive never had anything done to my house before and Felipe and his team were great. They moved a door for us, retiled our entire bathroom, changed all the hardware in the shower, created a new closet in our bedroom, re-did the plumbing under our bathroom vanity, and built a new wood fence in our front yard. Along the way, I made some additions and changes to some aspects of the job and Felipe rolled with the punches so gracefully. After each portion of work was completed, if I wanted something tweaked, he did it no questions asked. And at every beat of this job Felipe explained everything to me thoroughly, he foresaw issues with some of what I was asking for, created solutions for it, and just stayed in communication with every single development. He was flexible and respectful and open to my ideas. He provided me with critical information when a problem would arise, he always solved it, and the work was great. The fence he built in my front yard is absolutely beautiful and I love ,y new bathroom and closet. His team was respectful and friendly and this is so important when you have a crew of people in your home for a month. He managed every aspect of the job from waste management when our bathroom was out of commission, the painting, the electrical, the tiling and drywall. he even put our toilet back every day so we could use it at night while they were tiling the floor. They cleaned up every day. I mean I just could not have asked for a better experience. We will have him back to add more fencing within the next month and when we are ready to do our kitchen I will be using him them also. I highly recommend this team."

Doors questions, answered by experts

Ideally, a gate should be able to swing both in and out. However, if it can only open in one direction, it is generally best for it to swing inward. This is often the safest option, especially for deck gates near steps, as you'll want the gate to swing away from the stairs. An inward swing also prevents the gate from opening into a public space, like a sidewalk, and can be more convenient when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

There are exceptions, however. The layout of your property may require a different approach. For example, if your property is on a slope, the gate may not be able to swing inward. You should also ensure the gate can open fully without colliding with any objects or blocking access to other areas. For a backyard garden gate where public access isn't a concern, the direction it swings is largely a matter of personal preference. Finally, always check your local building codes, as they may have specific requirements for which way a gate must swing.

No, you cannot install a door without a jamb. The jamb is where the hinges, strike plate, and trim are attached. A person could ostensibly attach the hinges to the door frame itself, but it would hamper the door from opening and closing like normal. Door jambs also provide crucial support for the door and security for exterior entryways.

When choosing between an inward- or outward-swinging door, there’s no right answer. Inward-swinging doors are great for avoiding debris and keeping hinges inside for added security. Alternatively, outward-swinging doors can give you more space inside your home, and some homeowners feel they’re harder to force open. Ultimately, neither is “better,” but a door expert can help you figure out which fits your needs.

No, a storm door should not replace a regular door. It lacks the durability, insulation, and security of a proper exterior door. Most storm doors have lightweight frames and minimal locking hardware, and they aren’t meant to stand alone. While they work well as a backup to your main entry door, relying on one as your only barrier would likely lead to drafts, higher energy bills, and safety concerns.

Bifold doors are a practical and space-saving option for closets, especially if you're figuring out how to design a closet in smaller rooms. This door style allows full access to the closet opening while taking up less floor space than traditional swing doors. Bifold doors come in a variety of styles, materials, and finishes to match any decor.
