"We have a strange leak in our basement that recurs every time it rains. To figure out the potential source, we called Alpha Structural, and the entire team was outstanding from the get-go. Lisa Hunter first took a detailed account of and keen interest in our situation, and then Gary Coffing came to inspect our house. Gary possesses an incredible wealth of knowledge about foundation and structural integrity, and gave us a very fair assessment of what might be happening, and what we could and should try first. Rather than make a hard sell to engage Alpha in a major investigation, he suggested we first try a few simpler solutions, including fixing the grading of our soil leading to the basement as well as our gutters. Perhaps this won't work and perhaps it will, but the point is he gave us a full account of what may be happening and a number of specific things to try before pulling the trigger on a major structural ordeal. A HUGE thank you to Gary and the whole team. We hope it doesn't come to it, but if we do need to go down the route of major structural work, we will absolutely call you again."

"We had a second story deck that was leaking water into the garage. We got 4 companies to come and give us a quote.  Two of them were cheaper but they seemed as puzzled as we were about what to do and could not guarantee from future problems. The other company suggested rebuilding the entire deck and was way out of budget. Ryan from Monarch Custom Coatings came with a sample that had several layers to waterproof the deck - we were very impressed that he was very knowledgeable and has a lot of experience with this type of work. He and his crew worked very hard, always professional, prompt, courteous, and our deck looks amazing now. We were so happy with them that we hired them again to redo the garage floors. We have had bad experiences in the past with contractors, so we know that finding a good, reliable, and honest one is very hard and rare. We highly recommend Monarch Custom Coatings!"

"Met with Nir this morning and found him to be very knowledgable and professional. My home needs foundation work and he was able to review with me all the options, giving me feedback and the pros and cons of the alternatives. While we agreed on a path forward on the remodel I later realized that I needed to put off the work. I will be budgeting for the work and plan to come back to United Builders."

"It went smooth and it was an overall pleasant and informative experience. Rick arrived on time and we went straight to work on my issues regarding a basement conversion. I previously had terrible experiences with contractors and i had given up hope in finding an honest contractor that would give me straight answers and a clear picture on what i was up against. Previous contractors would promise the world just to get me to sign a contract. With Rick i felt that finally my search was over because i felt his honesty as he continued to speak the truths about hillside ordinance and foundation issues. He was willing to share his knowledge with me just so i can get a clear picture of what i was up against should i decide to go through with my project. I learned alot from rick today!! Thanks to Rick i can say that my wife and i are now able to make a decision alot easier with the information provided to me. If we decide to sign up it will  no doubt be with Rick from Azteca 111 Builders!
If you value your hard earned money and are needing an honest licensed contractor your search is over, call Rick.

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

You can DIY basement waterproofing in some ways to help save on the overall costs. If your basement isn’t experiencing a lot of water but is noticeably humid, you can try running a dehumidifier that will pull the excess water out of the air. If you notice water leaking due to outdoor drainage issues, you can add downspout extensions to keep rainwater away from your home.

However, if the problem is more severe and requires a more extensive solution, it’s best to call a basement waterproofing professional to assess the treatment you need and install waterproofing safeguards properly. Since keeping water out of your basement is important, ensuring this job is done correctly the first time is best.

Some disadvantages of crawl spaces are mostly regarding the air itself—moisture build-up and poor ventilation, which can cause problems both in the house and underneath it, even damaging the foundation itself. Crawl spaces are difficult to access and often invite unwanted pests during the hot summer months and the cold winter ones. These hard-to-seal spaces are also susceptible to water damage during periods of heavy rain or melting snow.

To ensure your basement walls are waterproof, it's crucial to address any existing moisture issues before finishing. Inspect for signs of water seepage, such as dampness or discoloration, and repair any leaks or cracks. Install a vapor barrier to prevent moisture from penetrating the walls, and consider waterproofing paints or coatings.

Proper drainage systems, such as interior or exterior waterproofing, can also be beneficial.

Egress windows or doors are required in finished basements to meet safety and building codes. If your basement is unfinished and used as a storage space, egress windows are not required, but anything considered a habitable space must have an additional point of egress in addition to the stairs.

The best way to ensure the ground next to your home’s foundation drains properly is to divert water away from it as much as possible. While a flood wall can stop water from entering the house, gutters and spouts can help direct rainwater and melting snow away from the foundation. Keep your gutters as clear as possible from dead leaves and other yard debris so they can effectively divert water from your house. Add extenders to the spouts so the water runs out and away from your home, not into the surrounding soil.
