"My floors look better now than when they were first installed. And their quote was one quarter of the previous quote which was not through Home Advisor. I would recommend them to everyone."

"Martin Estrada was very professional and did an amazing job installing our sink into our island counter top. He and his assistant were on time and did an excellent job. I had a very had time finding someone who would do this particular job and we were lucky enough to find him. I would definitely hire him again"

"They replaced several broken travertine tiles and cleaned my entire floor. The repaired tiles did not last as long as I would have liked. It was the solution that made sense at the time. Very professional and timely."

"Nathan and his crew started almost immediately and finished on schedule. They were responsive and approachable and ready to tackle any problems that arose during the project. Always nerve wracking to deal with contractors but KN remodeling made it easy and performed as expected. The tile work was excellent, the demo was quick, and the cabinets were gorgeous. The entire crew were very professional and courteous."

Small jobs welcome

"Our adventure started on a Saturday. I went on Homeadvisor and asked for quotes. Jimmy responded in a couple of hours and other guy a couple of days. I sent the two a drawing I made of the kitchen cabinet layout and got pricing. Jimmy was a couple of dollars less expensive, which didn't sway us, it was his reviews that did it. They turned out to be all true. From there we picked out our granite at Arizona Tile, Desert Canyon. Jimmy provided us his price with his discount which was much cheaper then if we purchased on our own. The manager at Arizona even recommended Jimmy and knew him well. After the cabinets were installed Jimmy sent his guys out to make the temples. We met Jimmy at Arizona and picked out the two slabs of granite that we wanted, great experience. At all times Jimmy stayed in touch and followed our progression of cabinet removal, installation etc., Jimmy provided tile tear out and disposal of the old tile. He was always just a call away and answered all our questions etc. and kept to my schedule, which made things go very smoothly. I went to his shop and meant the guys, Daniel does the cutting, excellent man, very experienced. Paco runs the shop and installation. All Jimmy's personnel were kind, considerate, cleaned up behind themselves and spoke excellent English by the way. They installed the countertops one day and took templates of the backsplashes, ours runs full to bottom of upper cabinets. Within 3 to 4 days they came and installed the backsplashes in one day, without problems. Again great crew!. Especially Louis!! (my wife nicknamed him Al (Artist Louis). A couple of days later Jimmy came to inspect and Paco polished out one seam and applied the sealer. Once again everything went off without a hitch. Couldn't be happier with our new kitchen and granite countertops. Our experience was great from the removal, install of cabinets to the countertops. At no time did we feel we weren't being taken care of and Jimmy was so helpful and so responsive at all times, as I did bug him a lot. We went from old to new in about 2.5 weeks total, everything right on schedule. Only without a sink for about 8 days, nice. Thank you Jimmy, Daniel, Paco, Louis and the rest of the crew for delivering on everything promised. We have the most beautiful kitchen with ever. You all should be proud of your craftsmanship, skill and professionalism."

"Bought a house built in 1962 that needed kitchen & bath upgrades. Ended up redoing entire kitchen ,  two baths and a room.

Met with several different contractors and hired Universal Home Design because of Ouri. He was very professional and polite and gave us a good vibe. We explained our vision and he gave suggestions without trying to sell us on crap we didn't want.
Ouri took the time to come up with an estimate/bid and worked on the layout in the computer with us for two hours, free of charge. Communication was excellent via email and text. Throughout the project, we enjoyed prompt, fast responses, even late nights and on weekends. Yuri took care of all permits and city inspections as well. For us, Universal Home Design was basically a turnkey operation; we gave them the house key and let them come and go freely without supervision. There were no problems with this, it was all very convenient.

From talking to our friends, in any renovation project, there are sometimes a few details that need correction and some minor setbacks along the way. To UHD's credit, unlike some of the stories we've heard about other contractors, Ouri never argued against our occasional requests for early fixes and adjustments mid-project, and had his team rectify these items promptly to our satisfaction. UHD's customer service is very good. So far everything has been great and we are very much enjoying our new kitchen.

Overall we are very happy with the results and would recommend Universal Home Design."

"We decided to install an outdoor kitchen and needed a solid base. The crew created a large concrete slab that measured around 400 sq. ft. They first excavated, installed a compacted gravel base, and added rebar before framing everything out. Drainage slope was included so water doesn't pool, and they ensured utilities could run through conduit before the pour. The slab was finished with a smooth surface since it will later be tiled. Permits were pulled in advance, and city inspectors signed off at every stage. The process took a few weeks, and the space is now ready for the kitchen installation. The precision in layout and attention to detail stood out to me. It feels like we've got a reliable foundation for years of outdoor use."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all best tile for a dog shower. Consider your budget, tile durability, aesthetics, and, most importantly, practicality. Avoid tiles your dog will slide around on. Pebbles are a great non-slip option, but are pricey and tricky to install. Glass might look modern, but it’s not scratch-resistant. Small, floor-rated ceramic or porcelain tiles are economical and have many grout lines that make the surface more slip-resistant. Pick a matte finish rather than a shiny tile if you want it to hide stray mud and hairs better.

Terracotta tile is a broad term for clay tile that’s been fired in a kiln, and Saltillo tile is a specific type of terracotta tile produced in Saltillo, Mexico. In addition to Saltillo, terracotta tile comes in a range of other shades and styles. You’ll often find it used in buildings throughout Mexico, southern Europe, and the western United States.

The easiest tile size to install is large tiles, and they’re easier to install than small tiles—the job is faster and simpler when there’s less placing, adhering, and grouting to do. However, when tiles get really big, they’re more difficult to handle, cut, and fit. Standard floor tile sizes are 12-by-12 inches, 18-by-18 inches, and 12-by-24 inches.

Per the International Code Council, walk-in shower floors should have a minimum slope of 1/4-inch per foot (or a 2% slope) towards the drain. The slope should be no steeper than 1/2-inch per foot (or a 4% slope). This helps safely direct water into the drain rather than all over your bathroom.

When tiling over concrete, you should install an anti-fracture membrane after the concrete has been prepared. The anti-fracture membrane acts as a moisture barrier and should be installed to protect the tiles from moisture which helps maintain their integrity. Often, Ditra, a brand name, is used interchangeably with moisture barrier.
