"**Robert was very calm, cool, and collected!!!! I got a call from my tenant at about 1p on a Sunday afternoon, that her kitchen ceiling was leaking water. I suspected there was a plumbing issue right away, and I reached out to Robert. Instantly, Robert said he would go take a look after he completed his job across town. Heroically, Robert made it there in about 30 mins and discovered the issue was a clogged pipe, and used all his tools in his belt to help me clear the clogged drain issue. Long story short -- he fixed everything before 3p 😮😮😮 Thank you Robert!! You are the man!! I will call you without hesitation moving forward!!!"

"Francisco called me right away. He was easy to schedule with. He communicated every step of the way, showed me the options and made sensible recommendations. He replaced a broken drain pipe in my garage, replaced a kitchen sink disposal and fixed the pipe in the kitchen sink."

"“Sugar Bear Plumbing” definitely lives up to its name! Plumbing is a messy job, but Lawrence definitely added “sugar” to what was a an unpleasant and stressful situation. He discovered a “slow leak” behind our middle unit’s shower wall that had caused a lot of rot & water damage. We had to replace plumbing, shower tiles, bathtub & flooring in one unit and water-damaged ceiling/drywall in the unit below. I am a small property owner in SF. My husband & I occupy one5 & and rent out two units in three-unit Edwardian, so our situation required appropriate communication with tenants & timeliness on the part of contractors. Lawrence understood, was always communicative, ensured workers showed up on time, stuck to the plan and finished the job on schedule. Sugar Bear is “not the cheapest or the most expensive” plumber out there, but Lawrence works on a flat-rate basis & really knows what he is doing, having apprenticed with his father and having been “in the business” for 25(+) years. Check out Sugar Bear Plumbing's site and video!!! Also, workers cleaned up as much as possible each day and sealed off working area. The only thing we noticed was that the tile/drywall sub-contractor was a bit messy & we had to scrape patches of dried joint compound off shower rods, floor, tub, tile, etc and had to remove white, dusty handprints from the tenants’ hallway walls. But, drywall/tile installation is by definition a messy job & I suppose one can’t find/clean every little spot on a tight schedule. In short, I found Sugar Bear Plumbing to be forthright, forthcoming contractors who were able to be flexible and deal with problems as they arose. I feel I found a real “gem” in Lawrence. BTW, He also took a lot of pictures & was very helpful when it came time to deal with our insurance company."

"JPC team did an excellent, professional job on our storm water sump pumps related project. (Two sump pumps were working; they did not need repairs.) 1) Cut and replaced two broken pipes; installed new valves 2) New float sensors installed and set to auto-start the sump pumps 3) long outflow pine, connecting to city's water drainage system, was cleaned using long snake and high pressure water pump combination. 4) successful final test with water filled in water chamber and sump pumps working 5) JPC gave warranty for work done and signed up for once-a-year annual maintenance visit in October."

"Very professional. Arrived when promised, and assessed the work needed. Their estimate was not within my budget. I was able to find a handyperson to take care of this, instead."

"Water leaked in the middle of a tiled kitchen. Excellent work diagnosing a leak. Quickly replaced the garbage disposer. Only 2-3 hours after I called and everyhing was all done. Left the place neat too. Good communication. Kudos to Jose. He’s an asset to his employer."

"Isaac and team were incredible in getting a bunch of updating old and out-of-code plumbing work done on our tricky 100-year-old house. They took time to really dig in and assess the right game plan to make sure not only that all the plumbing and vents were done properly, but that they looked great given some would still be exposed / visible under our porch. The team was communicative and courteous. Our new plumbing is working like a charm. The tankless heater and smart shutoff are cranking. And everything passed on first inspection. The inspector even commented how clean and detailed it all looked. Would recommend SplashFix for any project, big or small."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Vinegar is better for an AC drain line because it’s less corrosive and won’t damage the pipes. It’s also a safer and easier product to use. Bleach should not be used on your AC drain line because it can corrode your pipes and harm the evaporator coil in your air conditioner.

To clean gunk out of a sink drain, pour in a half cup of baking soda, then 1 cup of white vinegar. The two will react chemically; let them fizz for 15 minutes, then rinse with boiling water. Repeat these steps if necessary for particularly dirty sink drains, and consider a drain snake if there are clogs.

Anything from debris, rust, ice, and even poor installation can cause clogs in your plumbing vents. Some signs of a clog include slow drains, gurgling sounds in drains and toilets, and bad odors. The bad odors are the most concerning, as these can include methane and hydrogen sulfide. Contact a plumber to come take a look if you notice any of these signs.

No. You should never pour old paint down a drain or sewer because it can clog pipes and pollute the environment. You must dispose of paint properly and safely. Different types of paint need to be disposed of in different ways—oil-based paints must be taken to a paint recycling center, while you can throw dried-out water- or latex-based paints in the garbage.

Air gaps get clogged by a few different means. Over time, food and grime can collect in the air gap, leading to a blockage. Mineral deposits from hard water are a common problem. Mineral buildup creates a film in the air gap and tubing, which can cause flow issues, as well as attract debris. Homeowners with hard water may want to remove mineral deposits regularly to keep the air gap clean and clear.
