"Cortez Bros Concrete was responsive to my calls and arrived on time to perform the work. They went beyond what we expected and did an excellent job patching the concrete trench and cleaning up. I highly recommend them for both small and large jobs."

"The Groundworks folks (formerly Bay Area Underpinning) applied their foundation-underpinning technology and expertise to extend to bedrock, level, square up the foundation for an extensive house remodel. I was most impressed by the young man onsite supervisor, Josh who answered all my work done, how and why questions. I wish this info was provided up front by the estimator. (My design-build remodel contractor referred this company)."

"Mud Worx was AMAZING! Our garage is not incredibly large, but we’re on a hillside and had some super specific requirements about level surfaces for a home gym. Natalia, Frank, and the team offered a fair price, did excellent work, and communicated like professionals throughout. We wouldn’t think twice about hiring them again whenever we have more concrete work!"

"I've worked with four different fencing outfits over the years and called quite a few more.  Fidel, the owner/estimator at Cuesta Lumber is wonderful to work with: flexible, honest and very helpful with suggestions. I would not work with his partner, who has since left, as I found him condescending and rather rude. Fidel was prompt about coming to see me when I had some concerns and all were addressed. His workers were competent, but did not always do everything they were supposed to and I had to remind them several times. Nevertheless, they accomplished everything to my satisfaction with high quality.
The standard fence was one of the better quality jobs I've had with the post concrete well above soil level and sloped downward. They accommodated a change on my part for the orientation of the lattice trim, which was my fault, without any fuss. For fencing itself, they are one of the best companies in this area.
The driveway gate with the recommended metal frame support looks like it will hopefully have fewer sagging problems than these gates typically experience. The process to get to the final product took longer than I expected. I had to make a few calls to Fidel to make sure my specs were translated properly: things like going back and installing vinyl flashing between the pressure post and my house. Overall, the gate involved more intensive involvement from me than I expected, but I got exactly what I wanted.
Pluses: price, flexibility, honesty and quality
Minus: communication (i.e. about when they would show up, where they were in the process, etc. Language barrier with workers a slight problem here.)

"Having dealt with a number of design build companies and general contractors, working  with John M was such a breadth of fresh air. His level of professionalism, communication,  and follow up are as about as good as it gets in that business.  He came to our home on a Saturday, called in his HVAC sub and produced a very professional bid in relatively short order. If you are considering a home renovation project I would highly encourage you at least get a bid from these guys. Had they been within our tight budget I would have hired them in a minute.

Concrete Leveling questions, answered by experts

Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.

Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.

Most projects take 1-3 hours, with immediate usability after completion.

The timeframe is generally a few hours, allowing for immediate use post-hydration, ensuring minimal disruption to surrounding activities.

Concrete leveling can last anywhere from five to 10 years or more, and in some cases, it can be a permanent solution. The longevity depends on the method used and whether the underlying cause of the sinking is addressed. For example, mudjacking typically lasts five to 10 years, while polyjacking can last for 20 years or more. It's best to consult a professional for an accurate timeline based on your specific situation and any factors that could cause the issue to recur.

Generally speaking, push piers—or steel piers—are the best option for underpinning, as they reach down to solid bedrock to find support for your foundation rather than relying on soil, which could be subject to the same issues as the soil directly below your foundation. However, the best underpinning method for your home depends on your location, how far down the bedrock is, and the type of soil in your area. Helical piers are usually the best option for sandy soil or in areas where the bedrock is too deep to use steel piers.
