"The Arborist came and reviewed the work I was asking to be done and explained in detail what should be done. I was given a price and then he deducted for the Angie's List discount. The price was terrific based on the other 3 quotes I was given for the same work. There were 3 crews (1 for feeding, etc., 1 for tree/trunk grinding, 1 for tree trimming and removal. All 3 crews arrived on time, were professional, reviewed the work to be done in advance and at completion, and were friendly. The work was completed as expected, the clean up was great, and I am completely satisfied and would use them again in the future."

"Jarrod and Juan of Premier Landscape & Tree are courteous, professional arborists. They worked with a real respect of our property We really appreciated all their extra efforts. They cut off branches of another tree so the reconnection of power could be completed with safety. The cleaned the top of the roof off after cutting the tree down and also blew the extra leaves off. The yard was cleaned up and actually looked better after the tree removal than it did before! They arrived prior to the scheduled time and completed the tree removal in excellent time. We would highly recommend them to anyone needing landscaping or a tree trim or removal."

"Ignacio and his guys were great!! They trimmed one large Palo Verde and one large Mesquite. The work was done in a timely manner and the trees came out perfect. They also removed one small tree and did a nice job on that also. I would definitely recommend them. Thank you so much for an awesome job!! ð ð"

"So Craig the owner came out for estimate same day of contacting him. We told him what we wanted and he explained their process and how we can get what we wanted while keeping the project cost effective. Right away I felt like Craig knew what we had in mind. This was not a small or an easy job. The job started with killing off the existing plants and grass(weeds). Then demo, lots of mature plants with some hefty root systems, Chandler hard clay. Craig estimated 3 days total, and him and crew were able to pull it off. Total we had new irrigation front and back-sprinklers and drip system Sod 1800sq ft. 800sq ft of pavers 30 plants and cactus planted Craig has come by after all was done to make sure plants and grass are surviving and that the water system is working right. We agreed on a price and like always littles things come up and change but Craig kept us updated, rolled with the punches and didn’t nickel and dimes for any of the “extras”. These guys do great work and move fast. They’ll start your job and stay till its finished, not spreading themselves all over town. Me and the wife are very pleased, very happy that we found AZ NativeScapes. Recommend for sure."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You can use the formula mentioned earlier to calculate the depth of tree roots. Each inch of width of a tree trunk translates to six inches of depth within the root system. Large trees extend anywhere from 2 to 6 feet into the ground, with some magnificent specimens going even deeper.

We don’t recommend DIY tree trimming for a few different reasons. First, the tools required to trim a tree can be costly, up to $1,100 or more, for the ladders and specialized saws needed.

Safety is another concern, especially when working with more mature trees. As a guideline, you should only DIY tree trimming when branches are less than two inches in diameter. Any more, and the safety risk becomes too high, which could lead to catastrophe. For this job, it’s safest to let a tree-trimming professional assess the work needed.

The fastest ways to remove a tree stump are by grinding it or burning it.

Stump grinding is often the quickest method, with professionals able to chip away a stump and its roots within a single session. You have the option to hire a professional stump removal service or rent a stump grinder to do it yourself. However, it's important to note that these machines can be large, difficult to transport, and dangerous to operate without prior experience. For safety reasons, hiring a local arborist or landscape specialist is often recommended.

Burning is another fast option. Before you begin, check your local burn laws. The process involves drilling holes into the stump, filling them with vegetable oil, and waiting 24 to 48 hours. Afterward, you can add charcoal bricks to the surface and light the fire, which must be attended at all times.

For a more affordable but much slower alternative, you can use potassium nitrate pellets to accelerate the natural decomposition process. This method typically takes four to six months.

Often, it’s the homeowner’s responsibility to handle the aftermath when a neighbor’s tree falls on their property. But if a tree has been obviously dead for a significant period of time and caused damage when it fell, a case can be made that the owner should have removed it, especially if the neighbor wrote you a letter about the tree or asked you to take it down. This can be grounds for a successful lawsuit in claims court and is a good reason to always pay attention to your trees and remove dead trees before they fall.

A few signs a tree may be dead is if the leaves are dead and there are no signs of new blooms. You can also perform a scratch test on some of the branches to check the condition of the cambium layer beneath the bark.

If it is green, it is still alive, but if several are dry, brittle, and brown, the tree may be dying or dead. Always consult an arborist before assuming your tree is dead because you may be able to save it.
