"Excellent work by Alex of Mr Rooter! Our water heater stopped working and Mr Rooter arrived same day. Alex reviewed and diagnosed the problem. The pilot needed attention and restarting, plus the Bleeder Tank and Release Valve required replacement. All done quickly, professionally and with clarity in explanation. I would recommend Mr Rooter"

"I can’t recommend City Plumbing and Rooter AZ enough. Paul went above and beyond when we really needed help. We were staying at an Airbnb for my brother’s bachelor party, and things went sideways fast after the restrooms got seriously overused. It was a stressful situation, especially after hours—but Paul showed up quickly without hesitation. He and his nephew got straight to work, handled everything efficiently, and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. What stood out most was how calm, respectful, and professional they were in a pretty chaotic moment. They didn’t waste time, didn’t overcomplicate things—just got it done. If you ever find yourself in a plumbing emergency, especially at the worst possible time, Paul is the guy you want to call. Reliable, responsive, and genuinely cares about helping people out."

"A & R Was great! The service was top notch and professional. As a home new to septic systems Kyle was very helpful in helping understand how and why everything works in the system. Everyone involved is professional and great at what they do. In three years, I will be calling them to do it all over again and happily recommend their service to anyone in need int the Prescott, AZ area. William St. Pierre"

"Very friendly family. We had not had the tank cleaned in 7 1/2 years and they were impressed with the findings. They were able to get to our tank which was on the far side of the house and they were unable to drive up to it, they were able to reach it with their hoses, it was quick and they were very professional."

"In addition to installing a tankless water heater, Lawhorn Plumbing removed an old tank heater, installed a water softener, and replaced a garbage disposal. The water heater and softener were not simple tasks, since the area to work in was small. I was quite pleased with the thorough work and neat/clean appearance of the area, plus the systems work flawlessly. I will hire them again for plumbing projects, guaranteed!"

Septic Tanks FAQs, answered by experts

It only takes a few days for a septic tank to fill with water after a pro has pumped it. This is completely normal, and the water is a vital part of your septic system’s wastewater treatment process. The water that fills your tank days after pumping is not the same as the tank being filled with waste. You shouldn’t have to pump your septic system more than once every three to five years unless you have a tank that’s too small for your home’s water output or there’s a problem with your leach field.

Ensuring you have adequate space for your engineered septic system is crucial. You’ll need to reserve approximately 900 square feet for a three-bedroom home’s system. However, the type of soil you have, soil absorption rate, the size of your home, climate, and local zoning code will impact the actual amount of space you need.

You should never park or drive on top of a septic field. Vehicles can weigh upwards of two tons, and this weight can put a lot of pressure on the leach lines in the drain field. Too much pressure on your leach lines may cause them to warp, crack, or completely burst. This is an expensive and very avoidable problem.

Depending on local conditions, a deep well may be a better choice than a shallow well. Deeper well depth accesses groundwater that has been naturally filtered through many layers of soil and rock. This reduces surface contaminants and may offer cleaner water, but deep wells cost more money to build and maintain. The water may be harder and have higher radioactivity, too.

There are a couple of ways you can determine the depth of your well. One method is to use a device called a well sounder. This tool has a long measuring tape containing a sensor to alert you once the end reaches the water.

Or you can DIY it by using a long tape measure with a half-filled bottle of water attached to it. Lower the tape measure into your well. Once you feel tension on the tape, you’ll know the bottle has reached your static water level. This will give you an approximate idea of your well’s depth.
