During demo they exposed a lot of unexpected concrete that had to be broken up and hauled away. He asked if I could help with the added dump fees - I agreed and he only added the actual dump cost on the final bill. Very happy with how everything turned out."

"Great!! Mike came by on a Sunday and diagnosed the problem. Mike provided an estimate and said he could be here the next day to remove the valves for repair. You should wait three to six months after you buy it to paint pressure-treated wood. It needs time to dry from the chemicals applied to it. The paint will not adhere to the treated wood as well if it’s still wet from chemicals. To test the wooden boards, drip water onto them. If the wood absorbs the water, it’s ready for painting. If the water beads up, it’s not dry enough to paint yet. You can build your deck or fence while the treated wood is still wet, but you’ll need to paint it later.

If you’re deciding between limewash versus whitewash, know that both have a chalky matte appearance. Limewash is made from lime, water, and sometimes pigment, while whitewash consists of lime, water, white chalk, and binders (though you can get a similar look with watered-down white paint). Whitewash has fewer options for color customization, and it sits on surfaces instead of being absorbed into them, which can trap moisture. Whitewashing costs less—about $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Late spring or early summer is usually the best time to stain a fence. Pick your timing carefully and aim to start your DIY when you see a forecast that shows no rain and low humidity levels for at least a few days. If it’s too hot (like in the middle of summer), the stain will dry out too quickly. If it’s too cold (like in the winter and early spring), the stain might not be able to fully dry.

While most stains will be dry to the touch within 12 hours, it can take up to 48 hours to fully cure. That means that while your stain might not be sticky within 12 hours, it’s still not recommended to get it wet or touch it until it’s had a chance to set for at least 24 to 48 hours.

If possible, it is beneficial to paint both sides of your fence to protect the fence more completely from the elements. Painting both sides of your fence will create a more consistent appearance as well. However, the time and cost involved in painting both sides of the fence may cause people to paint only the side they see.
