"Team arrived promptly, performed work in a professional and courteous manner, removed all cutting and debris and cleaned up like it never happened. These people are tree experts, don't mow lawns or do general landscaping. If you need tree people who know what they are doing, you can rely on Chip Off The Old Block."

"I’ve gone through several landscapers over the last several years; always feeling like I’ve “settled” with the work done by all of them. I hired J&L Landscaping and today was their debut … my family and I, even the dog, noticed a big difference with J&L Landscaping. We’re never going to have to “settle” ever again. They knocked it out of the park exceeding all expectations! They showed up (15 minutes early), they had all the necessary tools, they worked efficiently, were obviously very experienced, they cleaned up after themselves, and they left our house looking like $1M!!!! Thank you, J&L Landscaping - looking forward to seeing you again in 30 days, and every 30 days after that!"

"I hired them to trim two large palm trees in my front yard, and remove four small dead shrubs. They charged me exactly what they quoted me, did an excellent job on both the trees and the shrubs, and did a fantastic job cleaning up the yard afterwards. I would highly recommend, and I will be giving them another call the next time I need tree or yard maintenance done."

"I got referral to Green and Trim from a local Nursery. He came out right away, gave an estimate that was very competitive and did the work within two weeks. We hired his company to do regular yard maintenance and they have been responsive for 8 months now. Good Company!"

"Jason walked into a Snake Pitt of electrical problems. We reviewed what needed to be accomplished and I asked him to document any other issues that needed attention. He diagnosed and quickly fixed the primary problem area and also recommended and documented other issues that needed attention in the future. Jason did a great job and I felt very comfortable with his work and the final cost. The next time I need electrical work done they will be the first one I call."

Brush Chipping questions, answered by experts

If composting feels too complicated, mulching is an effective alternative. While composting focuses on breaking down yard waste to feed the soil, mulching uses that same organic material as a protective top layer. It's a quick way to get value from leaves, grass clippings, and other yard debris without the time or effort composting requires.

It’s possible to over-mulch leaves. If the leaf mulch is thick enough that it’s blocking and smothering the grass, that’s a problem. Ideally, you should still be able to see the grass when you’re done mulching to ensure its ability to continue growing. The solution is to make another pass at the top layer of leaf mulch to collect some of the top layer.

The growth of tall fescue grass often causes clumps of grass in your lawn. Avoid pulling up the clumps, as it won’t effectively remove them. Instead, dig out clumps and their roots when you notice them early in the growing season. Herbicides can also treat grass clumps, but they can also affect other plants you might not want to kill, so use them sparingly and always follow manufacturer instructions.

Leaf removal, aeration, dethatching, mowing, pruning, and fertilizing are activities that prepare lawns for the next season.

There are several ways to dispose of excess sod, including building a compost pile, taking it to a green waste disposal facility, donating the sod, or reusing it in another part of your yard. It’s a good idea to check with your local municipality to see how to get rid of yard waste, as some areas have local regulations on what can go in the green waste bin. For example, your recycling services may reject too much soil added to green waste.
