"Emanuel, and his crew, did a fantastic job placing pavers in our extended driveway. They moved the plants to the back yard and made sure they were getting enough water through our drip system. They handled everything with skill and professionalism, on time, and with great skill. I would recommend them to anyone that needs great work done at a fair price."

"Pleasant on the phone but person was upfront in telling me they only do projects which exceed $5K. Since I didn't want or think my project was worth that I did not schedule an estimator to come out."

"Fernando Sr., Fernando Jr., and their crew did an amazing job with my concrete patio extension! They were extremely professional, showed up on time, and were very pleasant to work with! Their pricing is very competitive. They were very respectful and cleaned up everything after they were done. My patio extension looks fantastic and I'm excited to start using my patio!! "I hired Dalinghaus Construction to install two push Piers for a freestanding column/wall (bad clay soil causing movement). I meet with Kevin to go over the scope of work and he explained everything in detail. The price was the best I can find. Took one extra day to finish the work, but they did not charge me any additional fees. 3 month later, I had a feeling that the column/wall is moving again and call Kevin. He show up in a few days and show me there is no way that wall is still moving and he was right. They are very good at what they do and customer service is the best. Thank you very much."

"I am so happy! Before, I had 3 flooring companies 2 concrete companies not want to do the work it required for my home to get the floor in because of a sloppy DIY someone else before us did. saying it was going to be an amazingly high price to get what I wanted. there were 6 inch step down in two different places that I wanted flush. I am so happy I found them on Angie’s list! Carlos who was very professional, came in and leveled it spectacularly. His team made all levels flush with each other and then stamped the concrete to look like a wooden floor. Although this is pre-stain color I already am so please. he listened to what I wanted and I am very happy with the end result I would hire again and do plan to to resurface my pool/driveway. THANK YOU!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, concrete is significantly stronger than masonry, especially if the concrete pour includes reinforcements, like steel rebar. Concrete is a uniform material that can withstand compression, sheer force, and tensile force as long as it’s reinforced. Masonry involves the use of mortar or grout to connect individual building materials, like brick, stone, or tile. Mortar and grout are also reasonably strong and resist compression well, but they don’t come close to the strength of poured concrete.

If you’re attempting to mix and pour your own mortar, expect to pay between $5 to $10 for an 80-pound bag of mix. The cost to repair mortar, however, can range from $300 to $500 for a 20-square-foot wall. The larger the area and the more extensive the repair, the higher the cost.

According to the Earthquake Country Alliance—a public and private alliance in California that works to improve earthquake and tsunami readiness—reports that unreinforced masonry, such as stone, bricks, and hollow clay tiles, is more susceptible to earthquake damage. The mortar between bricks isn’t as stable as other building materials and methods.

On average, a well-built brick mailbox can last between 30 and 100 years. The insert that holds mail inside the mailbox may last 15 to 25 years before it needs to be replaced. If a mailbox needs to be fixed due to damage, make sure you know who to hire for brick repair.

Whether you’re installing brick siding over a traditionally-framed home or you’re using genuine brick construction to build, the biggest downside of a brick house is the higher cost you’ll pay for the materials and labor. Real brick construction also means your home build will take longer, as it’s more time-consuming to construct brick walls than it is to frame out your home.
