Chuck provided photos of candidate replacement stone but there didn't seem to be a good match available so I gave him the OK to replace all the stone. However, Chuck put forth the extra time and effort to locate the matching stone. I happily agreed to a revised project cost of $750. Chuck and one assistant worked a full day on the repair and then Chuck returned the next morning to apply grout and final cleanup.
I was extremely pleased with all aspects of the job. Chuck is pleasant, courteous, professional, and conscientious - I recommend him highly.
"Thank you [member name removed]! I was a pleasure working with you"
Very professional on the call, showed up at designated time and date, fair price. When I went to inspect work, there was a mess left everywhere and thought the mortar was smeared over all of the brick. It looked sloppy. When I called, they stated that the job was larger than they thought. Well....you should have let me know that then. You gave the estimate and I accepted it. They said they would come back out and clean up. Never did.
"We did come back out to the job and cleaned what was unexceotable to the owner"
Gave Chuck a call about replacing some stacked stone around an entertainment nook that I had to remodel to fit a larger TV.
Chuck was very friendly on the phone and said it sounded like a quick job, which I figured it would be. He said it'd be a $150 minimum, which I felt was fair considering I probably would've spent $50 alone on tools and materials to do it myself.
Chuck and Scott showed up this morning to get things done for me. He was very friendly and got things done quickly and everything looks great, especially now that the stone is all back in place. I wouldn't hesitate at all to hire Chuck for my next project. A+++ provider.
Amy and Chuck came out to provide the estimate. It was a relief to work with them, as it was very consultative and they took time to look over all of the details. I really appreciated that I could explain my general ides, and then we could all discuss options for how best to accomplish what I wanted. In the end they came up with some solutions I hadn't considered that met aesthetic, functional and structural requirements - at a competitive price. They knew the history of the brick used on my home, and took the time to track down the same style to match. They even offered to drop off samples ahead of time to make sure I was comfortable with the choice.
I got a sense during my bidding process that some companies preferred to work with concrete block, and brick seemed to not be their preference. I live in a historic home, and brick is a reality. Chuck is very experienced and it was clear that he was a brick mason. I wanted someone who really knew his craft and was a licensed contractor, not someone who would just throw a random crew of guys at this job.
Whenever I stopped by, Chuck was out there working with his guys - literally in the trenches. He was always keeping an eye on everything to make sure it was done right, even while he himself was working on the job.
The job moved quickly and I'm very happy with the work. I think you can find lots of folks who will throw up a block wall, however it's a nice surprise to find a brick mason who is so knowledgeable and passionate about the trade and doing a quality job - meaning things are done the right way, not necessarily the easy way.
"Thank you so very much [Member name removed] as it was truly a great pleasure working with you! Thank you again!"
But careful examination by the mason revealed only a single crack around the circumference of the chimney right at the top finish layer of brick, plus a bunch of cracks in the cement cap on top. He sealed the crack with a polymer mortar type material designed for the task, and used an asphalt material (several applications) to seal the cracks in the cement cap.
We have not had a hard rain since the work, so the end result is not yet tested. But the situation was discussed openly and clearly with me on the roof with him, and the actual work performed was clearly needed. It was also less in scope than what I expected, and so was the cost.
No pressure. No upselling.
I had called two different masons to assess and quote on the work. Chuck was the only one to respond, and did so promptly. He did the work required within the very next few days. Easy to work with. Would not hesitate to use him again. Thanks Chuck!
