"We have American Home Shield warranty. We did have some plumbing and electrical work done. I have no idea who the service was because we did it through the home warranty. They have a $75 deductible for everything. American Home Shield has been great, definitely A across the board. The $75 deductible seemed great for cost and professionalism. They have a web site, Hub, where you can request service and everything, so A across the board for them. They are punctual and they cover the range of plumbing and - they cover a lot of issues with the home so I can always go to them if anything goes wrong, from plumbing to electrical to appliances. They've got me covered across the board."

The most common type of electrical outlet is a 3-prong outlet, which has two flat blades (one is wider than the other) and a round grounding pin. Older homes typically have 2-prong outlets that aren’t as safe as more modern options and are generally not up to current electrical codes.  Other outlets you can find in your home include 20A, 125 volt varieties for larger appliances like refrigerators or washing machines. 

There are also GFCI outlets, which protect against electrical shock in wet areas, such as bathrooms and kitchens, and arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) outlets, which protect against electrical fires caused by arcing.

The cost to upgrade an electrical panel ranges from $1,200 to $2,000, depending on the type of electrical panel you need and the size of your home. Amperage plays a central role in determining the cost, so calculate your home’s electrical load before purchasing. For example, a 100-amp and 400-amp panel vary widely in cost. 

If only half of your outlet works, there are usually two possible causes: faulty wiring or a half-hot outlet. The first thing you'll want to do is check the circuit breaker panel to ensure that it's not tripped. If your circuit breaker isn't tripped, turn off the electricity and inspect the wiring to see if anything has come loose or corroded. 

If you have a half-hot outlet, it means half of the outlet is controlled by a switch somewhere on the same circuit, which should be nearby. This is an intentional electrical design commonly found in rooms without overhead lights.

To install an outlet from existing wiring, you’ll need to choose a location where you can already access existing wiring. The easiest way to do this is to install an outlet on the other side of the wall of an existing outlet. 

Since the wiring is already in place, all you have to do is connect a new cable to the existing wiring and then connect the correct wires through the wall—to the new electrical outlet. Place your new outlet into the opening in the wall and then connect the correct wires to the appropriate terminal screws.

If a 240V appliance is connected to a 120V outlet, the lower voltage will cause that appliance to receive insufficient power. This may result in reduced performance, malfunctions, or even damage to the appliance's components. Depending on the size of your electrical circuit, you’ll likely need to reset a tripped circuit breaker at the very least.
