Sawyer Williams was great at explaining the issue and the costs, and it was a no pressure visit. He explained to me the four causes of water in a crawlspace and suggested the best way to SOLVE the problem, not put a band aid on it. They have just finished a full encapsulation, sump pump, and dehumidifier with a digital thermostat I can monitor from in my home. Both can deliver clean water to your taps, but well water and city water carry a few differences. City water is delivered and connected through a main water line, and it travels through a network of underground private and public pipes to service various buildings and structures once it’s been treated.

Well water is derived from dug or drilled wells that source groundwater from the water table. City water is often more expensive than well water, but it eliminates the need for you to test and treat your own well water.

Most professionals recommend that a deep well pump shouldn’t run more than 10 hours consecutively before cycling off. Overworking the well pump beyond the recommended amount can prematurely wear out your pump and burn out the motor, which means replacing it more often than you otherwise should need to. Your well pump should also come with the manufacturer’s use and maintenance recommendations that are specific to the model.

The disadvantages of having a well include more maintenance, like annual testing and inspections, and high up-front costs to drill a well. Well water is also vulnerable to contamination, which is why keeping up with testing is important if you own a well. When it comes to well water versus city water, well water does offer more independence and is a reliable water source.

A few common issues may be to blame for a continuously running well pump, such as mechanical damage, a faulty pressure control switch, low water level, prime loss, and leaking pipes and fixtures.

A leaking well pipe is quite different from if the well itself is leaking. To seal a leaking well, pour a cement mixture or bentonite into the space between the well casing and the borehole wall. The heavier cement collects at the bottom to form a solid seal, pushing lighter materials like mud and fluids up toward the surface.
