Funky Plumbing Inc is a family owned and operated business serving the Jefferson and Shelby counties.

"This business is dishonest and lacks integrity. They will charge you money even when they never showed up. Funky Plumbing reported that the came to my house and I canceled while they were in the drive way, which is not true. I cancelled the appointment before the scheduled time of the appointment. What really makes me upset is they said, “let us know if you need us,” when I cancelled. I was home when I cancelled and there was no one from their company in my driveway when I called. This company charged my home warranty company for a valve who in return charged me. I never received the valve or a service visit from Funky Plumbing."

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts

Because of the potential danger associated with incorrectly capping the gas line that serves the gas fireplace, many people will choose to hire a professional to do the work. Some homeowners may choose to hire a pro to only handle the gas line for them. They then may attempt to remove the actual insert on their own, which is a challenging—but not impossible—DIY project.

Oil furnaces don’t emit poisonous or highly flammable gases, making them less dangerous in your home than gas furnaces because they have a much lower chance of combusting. An oil furnace does pose the risk of causing a fire if it tips over, but it is generally considered safer compared to a gas furnace.

You can and should vent the gas from your hot water heater to the outside of your home. Traditionally, these gases were vented back to other gas appliances, like stoves or furnaces, but many jurisdictions have outlawed this practice due to the risks it provides.

Most water heaters today use atmospheric venting that exhausts the gas out of the home through a pipe.

Capping a gas line costs approximately $125. The final price varies from $75 and $150 depending on your contractor’s hourly rate. To completely remove a gas line and cap it at the base can cost up to $250. Most contractors will charge a flat fee instead of by the hour since capping is often part of a larger project.

Almost all new buildings in California need an earthquake shut-off valve. The requirements for an earthquake gas shut-off valve (and who can install it) depend on where you live. For example, according to the Los Angeles Municipal Code, you’re required to hire a licensed contractor to install one whenever you build, sell, or renovate a home. Check with your local building department for your city’s laws on installing, permitting, and inspecting earthquake shut-off valves.
