Recent Fence Company Reviews in San Francisco

  • Gonzalez Fence Company
They simply did an outstanding job from their timely submission of their bid, to setting a firm start and completion date and finishing on time and on budget. They commuted down from Cloverdale to our home near the Town of Sonoma daily, arriving by 7:30 pm and putting in a full day. High quality finished product - really outstanding work. I would enthusiastically endorse hiring them for any fence project. A high quality professional contractor

  • Robert Jasso Painting
Robert Jasso Painting was excellent! I have been dreading painting the exterior of my house for years. Apart from just the painting, there was damage that needed to be repaired due to the ravages of time and curious, badly planned "improvements" done by previous owners. Robert, Octavio and I went over my house with a fine-toothed comb and figured out what had to be done. If there were some construction-type issues that were beyond the scope of his painting crew, Robert recommended some fantastic contractors that were able to fix the problems. He has been in the business for years and has seen everything which is an important virtue when looking for painters in the SF Bay Area. Robert, his right-hand man, Octavio and the rest of the crew worked quickly, quietly and efficiently. Everything from the scaffolding to the final touches were great. I am getting a lot of positive feed back from my neighbors about how my house looks. I cannot recommend Robert Jasso Painting enough. Thank you

  • JH Fencing and Gate
Beautiful job. We have had many people comment on the great job Johan and his crew did. Work was done in a timely fashion. I would recommend using him in the future and have already asked him to replace the perimeter fence. Great enhancement to property.

  • Ergeon Fence & Driveway
I would like to write a new review about Ergeo fencing. I gave a 3 stars because of the original engagement, did not end well. The fence was sloping on the left side, and old fence materials were not taken away. Management found out and reached out to me, trying very hard to remedy the situation. At the end, they corrected the fence sloping issue and hauled the old materials, and the results were excellent. Due to their effort and sincerity, I would revise my rating to a 4.9 star. I would hire them again, and hoping the communication is smoother in the future

  • Plane & Stain Inc
I moved into a house with the understanding that I'd replace a fence to settle a dispute between the previous owner and the neighbor. (not fun!) Called a number of companies, and of the ones who actually responded, Plane & Stain were the most responsive and least expensive. Owners Justin and Ian responded quickly to every question from me and my neighbor (nothing like having two bosses for one job!) and we were able to schedule the work within two weeks (instead of the three or four months I'd been hearing from other companies!). Jose and Jaime were awesome on the job and left the site neat every day and did great work. They were even able to build the fence around an existing tree and roots. (See photo - the messy pallet is all mine not theirs!) I would definitely work with them again

Fencing FAQ

  1. How much does it cost to install a fence?

Answer: The average cost to install a fence is $2,600. A variety of factors will impact the overall cost of fencing installation, such as the length of the fence, the materials you choose, and local labor costs. Fencing projects using the lowest cost materials and with lower labor costs can cost as little as $1 to $6 per linear foot, while projects using the highest cost materials and with higher labor costs may be as high as $15 to $45.

  2. Do I need a permit to build a fence around a yard?

Answer: Whether you’ll need a permit to build a fence around your yard will depend on your city or county's local codes. Many metropolitan and suburban areas require a permit to install most fencing, but they may not for fences situated behind a house as opposed to in front of it or fences that don’t run within a certain distance of the road. To find out if you’ll need a permit to fence your yard, reach out directly to your local government office.

  3. What is the cheapest fence to install?

Answer: The cheapest fencing to install is chain-link fencing. Chain-link fencing is typically cheaper than other fence types because the materials cost less, and installation is generally quicker and easier than other options. Chain-link fencing is affordable, easy to install, and low maintenance. However, it’s usually considered less secure than other options and doesn’t increase resale value as much as fences made of different materials.

  4. Is a wood or vinyl fence cheaper?

Answer: Wood fences are generally cheaper than the cost of vinyl fences. While the cost of materials for wood and vinyl fences is usually very similar, the labor cost associated with installing a vinyl fence is higher. Wood fencing is also easier to install than vinyl fencing, making it possible to save money by making wood fence installation a DIY project. It’s also possible to DIY install a vinyl fence.

  5. What is the life expectancy of a vinyl fence?

Answer: Vinyl fencing can be expected to last between 10 and 30 years. Vinyl fencing is generally low maintenance, but proper care will ensure it lasts as long as possible. Its long life span and high return on investment make vinyl fencing a popular option for many homeowners.

  6. What type of fence adds to the property value?

Answer: Installing quality fencing, no matter the fence type, will generally add value to your property. In general, fences made of longer-lasting, lower-maintenance, and more attractive materials—like wrought-iron, composite, or vinyl—add more value to a property than fences made of lower-cost or less attractive materials, like chain-link. To ensure your fencing adds as much value to your home as possible, be sure it’s properly permitted, approved by your homeowners association (if you have one), and installed properly.
