"Finesse Fencing did an excellent job replacing my old back fence. Marvin’s team was very prompt in scheduling to examine my property, provided me with good options and presented me with a very fair quote for the job. On the day of the job, the team showed up on time and worked straight through until dark to get the old fence out and the new fence completely constructed all in one day! I highly recommend contacting Marvin to get your fencing job done by Finesse Fencing."

"I was referred to Bay Breeze by a colleague of mine after searching for a landscaping specialist to handle a project of mine. After speaking with Eduardo and answering all of my questions, I was confident enough to proceed with this job. Bay Breeze surpassed all of my expectations including quality, pricing, communication and all of the above. What really impressed me working with Bay Breeze was their attentiveness and consistently staying in contact with me during the project. I was specified throughout all of the updates and changes which made me even more comfortable working with this business. My project was done before the deadline, and I am ecstatic to showcase the work Bay Breeze and staff have constructed. Thank you so much for your hard hard and business."

"We’re absolutely thrilled with the work Tom and his team did on our backyard in Oakland! They transformed the space by installing grass, a sprinkler system, a flagstone area, a pergola, and a fence, while also addressing drainage issues to ensure the yard stays in great shape for years to come. Tom was reliable, responsive, and a true professional. From our first consultation, he listened to our vision, offered thoughtful suggestions, and kept us informed every step of the way. His communication made the entire process seamless and stress-free. The crew was fantastic—punctual, respectful, and hardworking. They showed up on time every day, worked efficiently, and left the site spotless. Thanks to Tom and his team, our backyard is now a stunning, functional space that we love. We couldn’t recommend Tomservice more highly!"

"Fence looks very solid. We used the 20% discount from Angie's list, which made the bid lower than competitors. The final cost was approximately $32 per foot of fence. I guess that's about all that matters. But it was not an ornate fence - just a simple, well built fence.

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install a fence is between $1,800 and $4,500. However, the price can vary significantly based on several factors. For a small DIY project, costs could be as low as $450, while fencing a large property like a 5-acre yard can exceed $43,000. Key factors that influence the total cost include the fence's size and height, the material used, the complexity of the design, site preparation needs, and any additional features like gates. The cost of raw materials, manufacturing, and custom fabrication can also impact the final price.

When considering how much of a gap should be under a fence or gate, a good rule of thumb is to keep gaps between 2 and 5 inches tall. This allows for some ground clearance for the gate but still provides safety for children and pets, who shouldn’t be able to squeeze through a gap of that size.

When deciding between fence post foam and concrete, the best choice depends on your specific needs and priorities. Concrete is generally considered stronger and more durable, making it the preferred option for heavy, load-bearing posts. However, expanding foam offers several advantages, such as being more eco-friendly and curing much faster. For smaller fences or those made with lighter materials like vinyl or wire mesh, post foam is a good alternative. While concrete is more affordable, it is also harder to work with and has a longer curing time.

Many types of farm fencing can work well for your farm, but it depends on the type of animal you need to contain and the size of your property. If you want something quick and temporary, go with a metal T-post fence. If you need something that will last forever, go with a synthetic fence made of composite material or PVC. Electric and barbed wire fences are often chosen for docile livestock, like pigs and cows.

Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.
