Gonzalez Painters & Contractors INCWe obtained estimates from three painting contractors and Gonzalez came in at the middle price point. The reason we selected them over the others was because communication with "Five Star Painting" (lowest estimate) was terrible and we felt that they would be be difficult to work with. We'd previously used CertaPro twice before and been happy, however in this instance their estimate was a bit higher than Gonzalez but it included a 'deal breaker' in the form of a 'fuzzy' number for repairs. In other words, instead of giving a firm price to replace some deck boards (as Gonzalez did), they gave a price range which was quite large. For example, instead of quoting $ 350, they said $ 350 with the possibility that it could actually be $ 550. This amount of slop in a quote was unacceptable to us. One of the things that we like about Gonzalez was that they had a project coordinator (Erick) who became our 'go to' person in terms of scheduling the work and discussing project details such as choosing a paint color, etc. We think that having a capable person in this role is very important for a number of reasons, but mainly to have a reliable way to stay connected with what is going on with the job since most of the workers do not speak English with much fluency. Our project consisted of power washing the entire house (~ 2500 sq feet with three levels and three decks). The decks and some Cedar siding required a good deal of repair which they did well. Then the decks were stained with two coats of solid stain. We did encounter a bit of a problem here when it rained shortly after some stain had been applied. This caused the stain to not cure properly and we think that this could have been avoided with a better eye to the weather forecast. However, Erick and his team said that they would correct this problem, which they did. They were VERY good to work with in terms of being flexible and considering our needs. For example, after the first coat of solid stain had been applied we felt that it was not quite the color we had hoped to have. Of course, this had nothing to do with Gonzalez and yet Erick was very supportive. Although they had already purchased all of the stain from Sherwin Williams he said that he'd see if the second (and final) coat could be modified to give us the color we wanted. He could have easily told us that because the stain color had already been mixed that there was nothing to be done about it. Instead he did take that stain back to Sherwin Williams and had the color adjusted. We consider this to be excellent customer service! All-in-all, we are highly satisfied with Gonzalez and give them a top recommendation.- WILLIAM R.
