I had to contact a mover on a Sunday. No other mover in Madison, WI was open except Top Notch Movers. They answered their phone. I told the owner that Colonial Van Lines, Pompano Beach, FL the day before we were scheduled to move, told us they would not move us even with 3 months notice, a contract with them and money down, which they took to secure the move. They asked us to give them a 3 day window and then the day before the first day, stated they couldn't move us none of the days. We had to be out of our house in 2 days. We rented from the current owner of our house. The contract would expire and we had to leave. One of the owners of Top Notch Movers, Andrew, said he would make it happen. He really didn't have time available because of other scheduled moves but he would fit us in and store our things and deliver our things after we had relocated to South Carolina. They arrived the next morning and we were moved out that day. Thank God! Thank you Top Notch and Angi. I don't know what we would have done had he not helped us on such short notice. They are a very concerned group of people who put people first. Their service is preeminent. The defiition of preeminent is "surpassing all others; very distinguished in some way." Thank you Top Notch. Thank you Angi for sending me a list of your best movers and helping me in a serious and stressful situation. Even if you check reviews by Googling, I found out, they are not always accurate and there is a way to bury the bad but true reviews until you dig further and then it can be too late. I found the other horror stories similar to mine from people who contracted with Colonial Van Lines, FL, after digging deeper. Going with a trusted service company like Angi, that reviews and filters good people who perform a service needed is the only way to trust someone with your life and your life events

These movers did great for us. The office was easy to work with and efficient. The movers were efficient as well, and easy to work with too. The rates were very reasonable. We are not planning on moving again any time soon, but if we were, we would use this company again. We were very please all the way around

Went perfectly. 2 pro movers knew exactly what to do and did it quickly! Also charged less than quoted! Win - win! Way Above Average Movers. Should change their name to this!

Worst Company Experience I have ever had. Makes promises he cannot fullfil. Clearly has no experience in helping people move. Movers came unprepared for the job. No pre-inspection. No large boxes as required Tv's and art. They broke a piano and many other items. They moved items that were supposed to be left in the house. They did not help pack or unpack as promised. They sent a non-licensed plumber to hookup apliences, which resulted in the leaking water all overthe new house. They caused extreme stress which resulted in a member of the family having to be admitted to the hospital. I urge anyone thinking of doing business with this person Scott Sklare to be warned!!!!! this person is not trustworthy!!!

During the move the company caused damages to my home and refused to work with a certified foreign company to repair the damages. Was told by the owner he would come by with a $50 pen to cover up the damages made

The two moves could not have gone better. The two movers showed up on time, carefully moved all the furniture, and even wrapped a sofa and a pair of recliners in plastic so relatives could more easily pick them up. Movers were polite, personable, and careful. They worked quickly and carefully. It was an excellent moving experience

JOSH, IAN and PUTZ (yes, Putz) were wonderful. They were there in the morning when they said they would be and got the job done right and in a timely manner.

  • First Class Moving & Storage

When I was receiving quotes for my upcoming move, First Class explained why it was beneficial to me to have an in-home estimate rather than a phone quote, even for a studio apt. I was greeted with patient, helpful and friendly staff each time I called with questions. They guaranteed the quote would not change with the exception of the packing materials which they estimated and in the end did not go over. I appreciated that they gave me a tip on how to reserve parking in front of my apt. building which made loading the truck go quickly and did not disrupt traffic. Two movers arrived on time and worked quickly and were mindful of keeping the security doors locked when they were not using them. They even reserved a parking space behind the truck when a car left so we could move our car closer. That was an unexpected and greatly appreciated gesture. All furniture was securely wrapped and boxes (which I had already packed) except for a framed picture they packed for me, were moved carefully. Nothing was broken or damaged during the move. They surprised us and arrived at my new apt before we did and rather than sit and wait for us, had talked to the building manager and was able to begin moving my belongings before we arrived. They had called me 2x to tell me they had arrived and that they were moving my belongings in- so they kept me posted. The 2 moving guys were friendly, professional and caring. They moved me in quickly and placed my belongings where I requested. They went above what I expected movers to do and with a smile. I learned that they had recently moved a few people to and from the Madison area, so their familiarity with the area was another added bonus. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM THEY ARE THE BEST!!!

The team of 3 arrived on time, very carefully packed all of my household goods and put them in storage. This included moving a piano down two flights of stairs. They were pleasant and courteous. The packing took longer than anticipated but they packed everything very carefully and took care not to bang up walls even when carrying heavy furniture down 2 flights of stairs. My goods were kept in storage at their warehouse and were delivered one month later. (No charge for one month's storage.) The delivery took place on time, once again the team was pleasant and responsive. Everything was delivered in excellent condition, nothing broken or damaged. The charges ended up exceeding the estimate but I asked them to do extra work, so no complaint

How to choose the right moving service

Selecting the right mover in Madison is important to the final outcome of moving. When you hire the right company, you can be certain that your belongings are safe as they are transported from your current location to your new location.

.Choosing a moving company that provides the moving services you need is critical, as you may need someone to pack and then unpack for you or transport your items across numerous states.

Putting in a little work before hiring a moving company can help you garner peace of mind that you made the right decision. Ask for answers to some of the following questions before agreeing to a move date with a mover.

Which options does the moving service provide?

Moving contractors provide a wide selection of service offerings to help with an array of moving needs. Many focus on moving jobs within a specific area, while others offer moves between states, for instance. Some moving companies offer complete service options, including packing your items for you or placing furniture. Talk to possible movers about what you require and want done to find out if they’re a good option.

What does the moving company charge for services?

Charges for hiring movers is often difficult to understand, so make sure you understand how each moving company sets its prices. Many charge based on the number of moving boxes and the number of furniture items they move, along with a specific set rate per mile. Some charge based on the weight of all items they move, and some might price services based on time.

Moving companies may offer quotes and calculators via their websites to give you some notion of ballpark cost ranges. Don’t look at these as actual quotes, as the moving service will change the price to a more accurate figure when you provide them with the specifics concerning your move.

Is the moving service properly insured?

You should only work with moving companies that have proof of carrying appropriate liability insurance that includes coverage for workers, their trucks and other equipment, as well as your possessions while in the moving company’s supervision.

Kinds of services provided by movers

Movers may specialize in certain kinds of services, so you must find the best one for your moving needs. Here’s a rundown that looks at a few of the types of services moving companies offer in Madison.

  • Load, transport, and unload. This is the most common option. It typically involves professional moving contractors with a van or truck. The moving company loads your furniture and boxes, hauls them to your new place, and then unloads them. The movers don’t pack up or unpack any items or set anything up. Some movers offer this service for long-distance moves, while many area moving companies exclusively work within the region or city.
  • Moving pod. Moving pods allow you to take a DIY slant to moving. Movers provide you with a pod or shipping container. You load it over time. When it’s loaded, the mover removes it and ships it to your new home. There, you can offload it whenever you want.
  • Packing. Some companies provide the packing materials and boxes needed for a move at an added cost. Companies may also provide packing services, which involve pro moving contractors boxing up your things for you.
  • Unpacking services. Full-service moving companies may unbox some or all of your things, making it easy to arrive at your new home to find it ready for you to move on in.
  • Assembly of furniture. If you’re turned off by the notion of people you don’t know touching all your possessions or determining where things might go, you can still obtain assistance setting up your new apartment or home by going for a moving service that installs or assembles your furniture.
  • Handling special items. Rare, fragile, or bulky items may require special moving services. When you need to transport a hot tub, a pricey art item, or some other unique item, ask prospective moving contractors how they plan to take care of the item during the moving process.
