It's like they moved their own stuff.
These movers were professional, efficient, very hard working and a pleasure to work with. They were careful with my furniture, using furniture pads and giving additional attention to fragile items. They were very skilled at getting large items through narrow spaces, like up the basement stairs, and packaged the moving truck very efficiently. I was amazed at how quickly they were able to move everything.
"Thank you so much for choosing TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and for taking the time to leave this review. I was delighted to see we exceeded your expectations! Best wishes for much happiness in your new home!!"
"Thanks for choosing TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and for taking the time to leave this review. So happy to read you had an "A" experience with us. I'll share your feedback with our team - thanks!"
The problem was with the estimator. She knew that we were moving three floors in both the old and the new home. And she also knew there was an elliptical machine and a treadmill to move. These were the items that caused the most problems for the crew. The actual move took almost three hours longer than quoted. I suspect that the estimator deliberately underbid the time so that we would go with TM&T as she know we were competitively quoting the job.
"Hi and thank you for sharing your feedback on Angie's List. I was glad to hear we warranted an A for this move......but concerned about the issues re: your estimate. I am sharing your feedback with our Sales Manager (I'm not sure who specifically provided your estimate). I'd be happy to have her call you to discuss this matter, as we certainly would like to resolve it to your satisfaction. Please allow us the opportunity to leave you happy! Please also know our team would never deliberately underbid just to get your business, because our goal is always to earn your satisfaction with our performance. Hope to hear from you! "Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review - and on behalf of our entire team, I'm so glad to see we met your expectations for great service! We hope to work with you again in the future!"
The two men that arrived were 30 minutes later than the window they told us they would arrive. As I mentioned before, I have supervised 4 moves in the last 5 years. Had I never supervised a move before, I may have not known any differently. However, this team were not efficient in their moving. I say team because the lead guy was good but his partner was dragging him down. They were not efficient in their moving, did not utilize the dollies, often making trips to the truck without much in their hands.
They chose to use an elevator ( I like on the first floor but they needed to go down 10 steps to get to street level) which took longer. Again, I have moved from this exact apartment building and previous movers used the stairs and never the elevator.
By the time that they were packed up, it had taken 4 hours. In other moves (from the same apartment and furniture) it has taken 2-3 hours. Unfortunately, my disappointment had only started. They did not show up at our new apartment to unload at the expected time. It turns out there was a medical issue with one of the men and he had to go home. The truck was waiting for a new guy to show up. I understand that these things happen. However, there was no proactive call to let us know what the status was. We only found this out after following up multiple times to the actual men and dispatch.
Ultimately, they credited us for time related to them waiting for the new mover. However, in my opinion that wasn't sufficient given the inefficiency of the movers. To be fair, I didn't attempt to get anymore credit. I did not want to work with this company anymore.
"Hi [member name removed]- I was so disappointed to read you review, and certainly sorry your experience with us didn't meet your expectations. I wanted to at least reach out and acknowledge your review and apologize. If you would still like to discuss your move, please feel free to reach out to me directly at sheri.rice @ twomen.com. Thanks"
"Hi [member name removed] - just wanted to say thank you for taking time to leave us a review. It's certainly appreciated! I'm glad we met your expectations, and certainly hope we can serve you again in the future."
MOVING DAY: The movers were nice, helpful, and personable, but that's where the pleasantness of the move day ends. They arrived around 8:45. Well within the 8-9 am time frame I was given, but since I was being charged starting at 7:45 am, I'm not really sure why it took them an hour to get to my apartment (Google maps estimates it's a 15 minute drive between their location and that apartment).
Once there, packing went exceptionally well. They actually packed in less time than estimated, so that was good. Loading time, however, was longer than it should have been. Previous movers from a local company were able to move my stuff in 1.5 hours. The estimate included a little over 2 hours to load, and a little over 2 hours to unload. In reality, the loading/unloading process took over 6 hours, not including the hour or so that their truck was broken down and no moving was happening.
I think a big part of the loading time issue was that they didn't bring out hand trucks/dollies to help move until the very end of the unload process. They were taking boxes to/from the truck one at a time. They also spent time disassembling furniture that didn't necessarily need to be disassembled, as previous movers were successful in moving it without disassembling it.
In the end, I probably could've overlooked the extra moving time if the move had been done well, but after all was said and done, I had a full SUV load worth of stuff that was missed by the movers and I had some furniture I had to learn how to assemble by myself because the movers missed it.
I do appreciate that the company seems to be concerned about customer experiences once the move is complete. I have followed up with representatives from the company who put me in contact with the assistant manager. I am currently waiting to hear back from the assistant manager about this experience.
BOTTOM LINE: If on time, on budget complete moves are important to you, I'd consider a different company.
**UPDATE 01/23/13: I did receive a refund for 1 of the hours that the movers went over the estimated time. I appreciate the concern that was shown by the people I talked to after the move, but I wish it didn't take 3 complete weeks to come to a resolution of my concerns.
"Hi [member name removed] - I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to leave your review. It sounds like although we met some of your expectations, we didn't do so well in other ways. It sounds like your management team did connect with you and offer a resolution. I just wanted you to know we've also shared your comments with our leadership team and if you have additional feedback, you can always email me at [email protected]."
"Hi (member name removed) - just wanted to say THANK YOU for taking the time to leave a review here on AL. I am delighted to hear we met your expectations for service and care. I sincerely hope we'll have the chance to work with you again. thanks again -"
They were late. They arrived at 9:15.
Overall the service was slow. They moved items one at a time. They weren't utilizing the tools as efficiently as possible. They often left my furniture/boxes in random places throughout the hallway of the apartment building.
They wrapped some of my items very well. They used shrink wrap on the couches because it was raining (very nice). However, some of my items were not wrapped as well (didn't wrap the bed boards).
Once I realized how long everything was taking, I requested they prioritize the bigger items and that we could handle the rest. Despite the fact that there was more room in the truck. I felt it would be faster if we did it ourselves in our cars.
It took them over 4 hours just to pack up the apartment (and didn't even take all the furniture). In previous moves (in the same apartment) it took 2-3 hours to pack up my belongings . Their original quote was 4-5 hours for the entire move.
Unfortunately, one of the movers got sick between the time that they left our old apartment and arrived at our new apartment. I'm aware that this is no one's fault. However, there was no call to inform us of the delay. We only found out once we called to find out if they got lost.
In the end we were charged for 3 additional hours over our original quote. They gave us a credit for the downtime associated with their sick employee. However, that did not make up for the inefficiencies earlier in the day.
I will not use this company again.

From the quote process to the execution of the move to follow-up after the job was complete, the service was uneven but generally trending toward the positive. The initial interaction with the office to develop a quote and set up the move was efficient and professional with the staff leading a conversation about the details of the move. There were a few glitches in the couple of weeks leading up to the move as there were some hand-offs of projects within the office that led to some confusion on our move but it was all resolved prior to the start of the move.
The movers themselves were working hard throughout the move and were good at communicating questions and receiving direction. However, having used a half dozen movers over the years, I would suggest that the crew we had was less on the "handle with care" end of the spectrum and more on the "get 'er done" end of the spectrum. This isn't necessary a bad thing as it tended to reduce the amount of time we were charged for the move; however, there were several scrapes and cracks that could have been avoided with just a small amount of additional care. There was only one item broken (that we know of) and one small area of damage to physical property.
After the move, we followed up with the office staff to address the small area of damage that needed to be repaired. It was repaired quickly and without any undo bureaucratic headaches. That is big feather in the cap of this company in an area that some moving companies will fight (no matter how big or small) tooth and nail. This was a B+ move in our eyes and in the world of movers, that in and of itself warrants our recommendation of this mover.
"Thanks for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. I read it twice, and will make sure our management team is aware of the issues you mention. I appreciate your comment at the end that you'd recommend us - that means a great deal to us. I hope we'll be able to work with you on your next move, and perhaps inspire an "A" report next time."
