I called up John and he was out for a quote later that day since they were working nearby. He got me scheduled within a week and the crew knocked out the project in a day. To finish the project, they installed a drain from my gutter, underneath the path and dug a trench into the lawn with an overflow valve. He came out much lower than everyone else...and it ended up costing less than the lower end of the estimate because of the existence of a clean out under our driveway that had been paved over by prior owner! Can say enough about how helpful and efficient Mr. MacDougalle was! We'd use him again and recommend his services to anyone!

They were very careful not to disturb the gas line that was right over the drain line. It took 3 days from start to finish because of the gas line and water main being so close to the drain line. And, the drain line being about 12 feet below ground near the front sidewalk. The amount of dirt left in my yard was much higher than I had anticipated, but after being assured several times that because most of the dirt was clay and should not be compressed by the excavator, I was fine. My yard looks like crap, but that's what happens, I guess. Overall, it was relief to finally have this done. We've had numerous issues in the past with water not leaving the house, and the cleanup process was long and disgusting. Brian and Joel arrived on the scheduled day and finished in one day. They put in a full day's work, and stayed late to finish and did a great job. I stopped by his booth there and enquired if he could treat my lawn for wild onions and I signed for his treatment. His technician came out and told me that the infestation of the wild onion is the worst he has ever seen in his life. The only way to treat it is to dig it out and excavate the entire yard. The owner Kevin Kessinger came out to look at it. He too said the same and that he would come out with some good topsoil. We talked about several different things and I ended up signing up with him a contract to excavate the entire yard and to put a layer of soil on top to it. I signed the contract and paid him the down payment about three four weeks ago. The reason that he has not started on the job is because of the rains. He is one to get started on the job as quickly as possible. He has said that he needs at least three days of good sunshine to get in here and do what he has got to do. I understand that. I have high regard for Kevin. I assign him to be a very straightforward individual. He has maintained contact with me all the time. He has talked to me and explained several different things. He was even going little bit beyond the first contract and he is going to excavate the front lawn and we are going to put out a routine wall and that will kind of level off the front lawn where the flower bed meets the side walks. All in all it is about $ 10000 worth job. The excavation for the new lawn is for 7200 hours I believe and another 2200 hours I believe is for the pavers and other brick work. I know he is new to Angies List and it is my intention to file a report. At this point I am very pleased with him. I did not get very many estimates. One of the reasons why I chose him is because it is a family owned and run business. Personally I tend to lean toward them rather than go to large company like Scott. I feel I get more personalized service from a small family business than from big companies. This is my personal opinion."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/in/greenfield/kessinger-lawn-care-reviews-3993503.htm"},"position":10}]}

"Sat at 6AM my well sprung a leak and a gusher was shooting out of the ground. I call CJ at ^AM and the owner Josh answered (wow!). He said his excavation crew couldn't come come until Monday. I had weekend guests and wasn't too keen on going all weekend with no water in the house. Joosh asked me a couple questions. Do have a basement (yes I did) and is there a window in the basement (yes there is). From that he offered to send a crew to hook up a temp water supply to the house to get us trough the weekend. about 10AM on Sat two CJ repair guys showed up and hooked a bypass line from the well head through the basement window and tapped onto the main water supply line in the basement. What a life savor idea and our weekend went WELL ( no pun intended). Then on Monday morning the excavator crew shows up at 10AM and by 1PM the leak in the well pipe in the ground is fixed. I guess the u Bolt holding the pitless adapter to the casing rusted and broke, thus the water was pushing out as the pitless seal was now loose. The CJ crew explained all of this and kept me informed. My experience with Josh and his crews at CJ was top notch all the way! Thanks Josh for answering your phone on Saturday at 6AM repairs"

Excavation - stump removal, land clearing, grading, trenching, footers, foundations, basements, utility work, drainage systems and swales - have been in the business over 30 years
"If you want a professional job completed this is your ticket. I needed surface runoff captured and redirected. Then my gravel driveway regraded then fresh stone put down. This gentleman was very meticulous in everything he did. He shot laser lines to ensure water ran off properly. Once he completed drainage, the detailed work preparing the driveway was detailed. He used 3 types of stone, combining the different sizes was to bind all inorder the compaction would be a solid drive. Then he bordered the driveway by fixing 4x6"x12' timbers and secured with lengths of rebar, to contain all the stone. He DID NOT cut any corners. He DID NOT short on materials. This gentelman was really detailed and took his time working this project. YES I would recommend him again. This was $$$$ well spent. GROUNDHOG, Thanks Again !!!"

FAQs for excavation projects in Indianapolis, IN
Unfortunately, some plumbing scenarios, like a broken sewer pipe repair, will require excavation to complete the job. Plumbing excavation costs range from $30 to $70per cubic foot. However, if you need additional trenching, expect to pay an extra $4 to $12per linear foot. Keep in mind that these costs are on top of the plumbing repair costs, and they don’t account for labor costs. Consult your excavation specialist to determine an accurate estimate for your job.
The average cost for pool excavation is $2,500. This cost can range from $450 to $4,500, depending on the pool shape and size, time of year, and any need to move buried utilities.
When excavating for your pool, you might have to move existing utilities. You can expect to pay an additional $15 to $25per linear foot to move gas lines. To move a septic system, it’ll cost an additional $2,000 to $20,000. A pool that is 10 feet by 12 feet averages $450 to excavate, and a 20-foot-by-40-foot pool averages $3,020.
The cost for residential excavation is $3,200 on average, ranging between $50 and $200per cubic yard. Total costs could range from $500 to $15,000, depending on the project type, yard size, and soil type.
When a project needs an excavator, the contractor will subcontract one as part of the larger project. If you hire an excavation specialist, you can expect to pay between $40 and $180per hour. When excavating, if you have soil with excessive rocks or clay deposits, expect an additional cost of $200 to $1,200.
Warm weather seasons like spring and summer are ideal times to excavate due to the ground being softer and easier to dig through. However, it is important to note that bad weather, like heavy blizzard conditions or torrential rainfall, can prolong the project length, increasing costs. That’s why it’s best to avoid excavating during winter or hurricane season, depending on your home’s location.
While completing an excavation project yourself is possible, we don’t recommend it. You’ll likely need to buy or rent the equipment necessary for the job. This equipment costs as $100per hour or $2,200 weekly, increasing by as much as 50% for larger jobs.
In addition, completing an excavating job yourself poses a safety risk. If proper marking hasn't occurred, you risk hitting buried cables and other critical piping, like gas and water lines. Additionally, if working with excavation equipment, you’ll need to steer clear of any overhead wires. Leaving this project to an excavating professional is best.
