Customers say: Quality work

"I sure hope the installers did a better job than the office staff did with follow up. I was told the work needed a city inspection when completed. 3 weeks later I had not heard anything and called One hr. Was told they schedule the inspections with the city. No explanations why they had not done it yet. Because Of high ceilings They had to bring a longer ladder ahead of the inspector coming -which they .It took 2 people to carry the ladder up the stairs and set it up in the laundry room where the crawl space is. The inspector did not pass the work for 2 issues. Apparently One hr dose not keep up with city code changes very often. Good news they sent a crew out to fix the problem the same day and remove the ladder. also. The inspector said if One hr sent pictures via email he would not have to reinspect again. That was put on the work order and I called the office confirming it would be done. I asked for a copy of the final approval when done. No problem they said. Several weeks later I called. No explanation why it had not been completed. They said they sent the pictures. They said they would look into it. Again , no reply The work was done the first week of March. So I called this Monday. Told again the pictures had been sent but had not heard back from the inspector . She would call him to get it resolved and call me by the end of the day . No call until the next day. The inspector did want a re inspection. No explanation for why it took so long. The inspection set up for Thursday . Again 2 men deliver a very large ladder early in the day. And I waited for the inspector. When 3 PM came and I had not heard from him I called the city office. Told he came and I did not answer. That is another complaint also. Called One hr . They rescheduled for the next day-today. I was upsetThe gal wanted to send someone to remove the ladder and return it today. Dumbest suggestion I have heard. It takes 2 to carry the large ladder .So it was left overnight sticking out of the utility room. I had planned on doing laundry when they were done but it blocked the dryer door. Inspector came at 930 this morning and passed the work. I immediately called to get the ladder removed and was told they would but did not know what time . So I was prisoner again. finally came about 30 minutes ago but only sent one person- some new of course. So I had to explain the 2 step process to remove the ladder- take down the large one and bring in a smaller one to get back to close the crawl space cover. He was having trouble even getting it down from in the attic . In the past with 2 they would lift it above the counter and dining table and down the stairs. He wanted to do it alone. I asked him to call for help but he wanted to try. He at least got it out of the utility room but was scraping the door molding doing it. Again I asked for him to call for help. He went outside to call. I called the office and the gal refused to send a second person. She would rather leave the ladder there permanently than send a second person. Fortunately the employee that came came back and said he was getting help. So now I wait again to get it done. It seems like once they got their money that any customer service stopped completely. The inspector said when he came that he did reply when he got the pictures and said he did need to do a re inspection. He did not recall exactly when he replied but it looks like the office staff completely dropped the ball. And it took several phone calls from me to get any results. Poor follow up on the office staff. There were other things that I was not told by the staff but this is enough for now!! Follow up -work got done. It did take 2 to get the big ladder out. I asked the first guy after if he could have done it alone . He said NO not without hitting something. Even with2 they hit a diving room chair with the ladder."

Heating and air conditioning services FAQs

Knowing how long your existing HVAC units can last is essential to determine if you need a repair or replacement. Typically, most modern air conditioning units can last between 15 to 20 years, and most furnaces can work properly for 15 to 30 years. If your HVAC system is on the older side and you decide to replace one unit, it might make sense to replace both simultaneously to save on costs and future hassle.

While different HVAC contractors might offer higher or lower prices than competitors, the best time to replace your HVAC system is when customer demand is low. The beginning of summer and the beginning of winter bring the most demand for HVAC systems, so if you can, consider replacing your HVAC units in the early spring or fall. Many HVAC companies offer special off-season coupons that help lower the overall cost.

The average cost to hire an HVAC contractor is between $50 and $150 per hour if charging hourly. However, some HVAC contractors will charge a flat fee by the type of service they are performing—for example, an inspection can cost between $150 to $500. Keep in mind that emergency repairs—which are made after business hours or around major holidays—generally cost more than scheduled repairs.

Yes, most states require HVAC technicians to be certified, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed HVAC technician could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.

The average cost of HVAC repairs is around $350. However, that price can be as low as $100 or as high as $2,000 or more, depending on the repair. For example, replacing a capacitor is a relatively inexpensive repair, ranging from $100 to $500. However, a compressor repair is a more expensive repair, ranging from $750 to $2,000.
