I want y'all to know this is a 5 star company from start to finish. I have been so impressed with AMR, from the Sandii, to Steve, to the professional technicians. They do quality work, and they get it done fast.

My air conditioner was not blowing cold and then stop blowing all together. I have a 2-10 home warranty. I wanted to get someone out same day but the contractors the warranty company use did not have anyone to come out same day. My house thermostat was reading 92 degrees so the warranty company gave me permission to reach out to an "out of network" contractor to see if they could come out same day. I called 4 other contractors before speaking with Steve at Applied Mechanical Resources. The other contractors heard the words "Home Warranty" and they couldn't get off the phone fast enough. One of the contractors told me he didn't work with warranty companies because they weren't fair with their pay practices. Steve was different. He took the time to listen and talk to me about my unit and gave me some estimated prices on different things. He advised me of many different things to consider and explained what could be options for my older unit (over 20 years old.) He was very friendly, calm and professional with answering my questions. I'm sure he knew I wasn't in a position to utilize his services at this time because of my home warranty - BUT- that's what made this phone call an Angie's list "A" review because he took the time to care about my concerns and answered my questions. My home warranty does not pay for preventative maintenance so I will definitely call back when the maintenance is needed.

I contacted Applied Mechanical about a problem I was having with my 18 year old air conditioner. It is the upstairs zone in my house.  The tech (Mike) came out that day and determined I had a leak. Although they could have recharged the system (about $500) he said it could leak out very quickly and being that it was a very old system he recommended it be replaced. I agreed. I got 2 estimates. Steve, the owner, came out the next day and spent a lot of time going over the old system, taking pictures and making notes. He made some good  suggestions. Since the entire system (furnace, indoor coil, plenum as well as the outdoor unit) was very old and to obtain maximum efficiency and warranty he suggested replacing the entire system with a matched Trane system. They sell Trane units. My old unit was a Carrier but from experience I felt a Trane unit would be a better choice. Steve got back to me via email in a couple of days with a very detailed 9 page proposal. Impressive.  Everything was spelled out. All the pictures were there and details about the step-by-step process of how they would be replacing the units. He provided an option if I wanted to upgrade the unit. All model numbers and specific features were included. I appreciated that the first thing they do is put down floor covers to protect flooring. In contrast to Steve's proposal I received one other estimate from a Carrier dealer. It was a very short 1 page estimate with few details. Even though it was about $1,000 cheaper I wasn't sure what I would be getting.  After agreeing  with Applied Mechanical Steve ordered the system and we set up an appointment for install.  He said it would take 2 days to install.  Mike and Cory arrived early Thursday and by 2:30 Friday we were up and running. They did a terrific job. (They never complained about the oppressive temps up in the attic).  Kept me informed about what they were doing. Very neat and orderly. Readily answered any of my questions. Also, they installed a new thermostat and programmed it for me. Now we have a nice variable speed blower with a 2-stage gas furnace. And an icy cold air conditioner.  When they were done they checked each room for air flow and balance. They checked each vent for temperature. Very thorough. When they were done they cleaned up and it looked like they had never been there-except we were much cooler. Thanks guys!
In order to keep the warranty valid you have to have the unit serviced every 2 years. Steve explained that when they come out it is a very detailed and thorough tune-up-about 4 hours. I think that is a good service. Also, Steve honored the 5% off Angies list coupon.
Finally, let me say that it is nice to deal with a company that tells you what they are going to do and when they are going to do it. And keeps their word. Also, there is no pressure to up-sell. No fancy add-ons or exotic "must haves".  Steve, Mike and Cory are skilled at what they do and enjoy doing it. When my downstairs unit goes down I know who to call.

Another company doing annual furnace service informed me that I was getting carbon monoxide through my HVAC ducting which is indicative of a bad heat exchanger in the furnace. Potentially a very expensive job.
Thinking I should consider a new system because of it's age (17 years old) I originally had an appointment with Steve Stephenson for an estimate to replace my whole system. That changed when I found out by chance shortly before our appointment that the warranty on my heat exchanger was 20 years. Steve didn't even blink, he called the manufacturer right then and verified that it was in fact still under warranty and they could have the replacement part here in 3-5 days. I had an installation estimate from Steve that day.
I decided to go with Applied Mechanical Resources because of Steve's up-front honesty and initiative of calling the manufacturer. The original company was still dragging it's heels wanting to sell me a whole new system and when cornered for an estimate to replace the warranty part, their labor quote was three times higher than Steve's.
The new heat exchanger arrived and the technician had it installed and working with minimal fuss. The technician was clean, knowledgeable  and professional.
I found Applied Mechanical Resources to be very honest and up-front and a real pleasure to work with. When the time comes for another repair or for a whole system replacement they will be the first call.

The unit is more than ten years old, and this company has kept it going.  I appreciate that if the unit can continue to run without cost-prohibitive repairs, I feel no pressure from the company to replace it.  There was no problem with it over the summer.

We have used this company before and our experience has always been excellent. Their mechanics and helpers are very professional  and courteous. The mechanics are experienced and well-trained. The lead mechanic explained why they recommended the product they installed as opposed to our other 2 smaller a/c units.  All 3 units had been installed approximately 6 years ago and should have lasted in the neighborhood of 10 years. The smaller units are still operating, but we use 1 rarely and the other is used only at night in a separate space.
On this particular job, we were very grateful for their promptness and efficiency.: it was really hot!
As always, they cleaned up and removed all debris.
Yet another excellent experience with Applied Mechanical Resources.

I found Applied Mechanical Resources over two years ago on Angie's List.  I was just moving into my house and the A/C pan was flooding in the attic and pouring water down through the can lights into the kitchen.  Dave arrived within the hour to take care of the leak.
I use APR for all my heating and A/C needs.  From routine maintenance (flush hot water heater, maintain A/C units) to troubleshooting (came out to a COLD house last fall and Cory fixed it, coolant leak in the A/C system).
Steven, the owner, even became a Goodman technician so my warranty would apply.
I have been very impressed with the integrity and thoroughness of this company.  I will continue to use them and recommend them to my friends and family.

Steve Stephenson and his crew at Applied Mechanical provided impeccable service overall. Highly recommended. It's rare to find someone this good. First, his pricing was competitive (maybe not the cheapest, but them, he didn't cut corners) and fair. Second, he was extremely prompt. For example, we called him about completing a few minor unfinished items, and he and his crew showed up the same day. Third, he stands by his work. The thermostat he installed, for example, quit working after a few months, so I called him. He sent a technician out promptly, performed a few troubleshooting steps and determined that the thermostat was faulty. A new thermostat was installed at no cost to me. Fourth, he know what he's talking about. Very knowledgeable and competent about home heating and cooling systems. Fifth, he's very courteous and professional. He listens to customers and wants to make sure they're satisfied. I can't imagine much that would make me any more satisfied. He did his work extremely well.

HVAC system replaced; it has been over a year and the service provided was superior.  The system replaced was over 20 years old and even thought it was a challenging situation; Steve was relentless in making sure that what was done was correct.  We have certainly enjoyed the heating system especially since it was reported "last winter was the coldest in 30 years" here in the Hampton Roads Area and the AC was also right on target.

I received a call from our tenants at 7:40 am on Thanksgiving eve that the gas company had just left and shut all gas off to the house due to a leak at the fireplace valve. I called our normal HVAC company, no openings until Saturday. Our tenants had NO source of heat, no hot water....nearly every company said, "sorry...due to the holiday and the busy season, we are all booked up". I considered no heat and no hot water in a home with an infant an emergency. The response that I expected from at least ONE of the 12 contractors that I called that morning was, "we will have to charge a $$$ emergency, holiday charge". Not even that. Until I called Applied Mechanical Resource. Steve, the owner came promptly at 1pm as planned. He troubleshot the lines and had to open up the wall and inspect. He removed and replaced vinyl siding. He spent nearly 3 hours there and charged 349.00. I've paid more for a one hour visit from our regular HVAC contractor. Needless to say, we have switched to "Applied". I have severe anxiety when it is time to maintain or repair our rentals due to my experiences with contractors of all types. When it is time to start calling them, my blood pressure goes up! Good to know that there are good folks out there. Definitely a positive experience and it means even more being that it was so close to a major holiday. Thank you, thank you!

We received a call before he arrived. He had everything he needed for the job. Gave us a discount because homeowner was
able to run his own thermostat wires. Steve explained process during installation. Adjusted new thermostat to our needs and watched as he directed us to operate the touch controls ourselves. He tested the new function of the new device. He explained how much savings we should realize due to new control. Job took about four hours.
As always, Steve was courteous, knowledgeable, thorough, meticulous, left work area clean and neat, patiently answered all our questions.
We would not call anyone else for our HVAC needs. We highly recommend Applied Mechanical Resources for heating and air conditioning service.

Everything went very well. We're happy with the service, responsiveness, professionalism, product etc.
It was the most detailed, professional estimate we've received.
We're totally satisfied with our new Trane unit. Our power bill went down tremendously
compared to last summer's bills.
We hired Appl. Mechanical again this week to replace an attic fan.
I would completely recommend them to my friends.

The removal of old and  installation of new units went as planned, however, for several days there were intermittent operating problems with the new system.  The heating system would shut off in the middle of the night and sometimes come back on by itself hours later.  This company responded immediately  whenever we called.  Exhaustive diagnostics and attention to detail finally solved unpredictable gas line problems.  When you hire Applied Mechanical Resources, you can expect a serious engineering approach, full accountability, and outstanding communications.  This company is polished and professional.

Most honest people I have ever seen in my life. They know what they are doing. They came back a second time to fix something that was missed and ended up taking it off our bill. The owner himself came as well.

They may seem a little pricey. But in my opinion you get what you pay for. I have a large home that requires dual zones and therefore two units required replacement. I received multiple bids for the job (via Angie's List) and after speaking to the owner (Steve) who came out and did the actual walkthrough. I chose Applied Mechanical. I like the personal attention.

The installers/ servicemen were professional. The whole job took three days. I had to take three days off from work in order to be at home for the repairs and replacement. They were prompt every day. They walked me through the digital controls on the thermostat. They even went under the house to correct a deficiency in the ductwork after I noticed that one of the floor vents was not producing as much air as other floor vents were at no extra charge. They were even/ very protective of the shrubs that mask the outside units. The whole process went like clockwork and 7 months later I am very happy and satisfied that I chose Applied Mechanical. Steve was at my home at least two times I remember checking on things for me.

Initially, I received three different options for my system. I was able to choose what I wanted at a price I could live with. The support staff is great. Returned all calls answered all questions. You should? at a minimum? have Applied Mechanical provide you with an estimate and I will certainly use them again (but not too soon I expect).

On May 31, the system did not work.  Applied Mechanical came right away, and found an electrical problem.  After spending hours tracking the problem, it was thought that the failure was in the electrical service to the house, and recommended that we call Dominion Virginia Power.
Dominion came at 6 p.m that night, and did thorough testing, and could not find a problem with electrical service to the house.  Applied Mechanical returned at 10 p.m. that night to find the problem and fix it.  They worked until midnight to solve the problem, and when they could not, they bypassed the part of the system where they thought the problem might be,  and provided us with air conditioning for the night.
They returned the next morning to complete the repair.  The system has been working since.  There was an additional $284.00 charge.
