"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"I had an excellent experience with this company! When I called they sent someone out that day to look at the damaged door and give me a price that was lower than all their competitors. He also made sure my door was on his next truck in. The two gentlemen that came to fix my door were professional and polite. They quickly fixed the door and left it better than before by oiling the springs and tracking to get rid of the awful screeching noise. They also took the time to explain what they were doing and what type of regular maintenance I should preform to get the longest life out of my doors and showed me how to reprogram the door in the event I decided to change my code. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to have garage door work done!"

"I am honored and excited to write this review for H Is for Homes! This crew does it all, and they do it exquisitely. Now that our project is done, I can say with confidence that anything that needs done, I want them to do it. Itâ s that simple. Plumbing, flooring, tile work (oh the tile work!), electrical, carpentry, paint, and even handy work. Plus, what everyone wants to know, the cost was fair and reasonable. But more so, the value of the finished results far outweighs the cost! As for Heidi and Chris, they are a pleasant, professional team, and we really enjoyed having them in our home. They also paid close attention to the requests we made for our pets (even let pup out to potty if we hadnâ t been home all day)! They are just really great humans. Onto the type and quality of their work: They started with installing our floor, and folks, itâ s actually unreal the effort they put in to make the floor look like it had come with the home itself. This included raising a drain and leveling part of our laundry room floor. The grout lines were perfectly placed and the floor ran smoothly from one room to another. The work they did to cut around existing HVAC, stairs and Radon pipes was far beyond what my wife and I expected. They cared about every single detail like it was being installed for a King! They moved onto painting (which was always done with care, caution, and always finished with clean lines). Then, they moved to building a new bathroom from 4 bare walls and a hole in the floor(where the exquisite tile work came in), building bulkheads and redoing wiring, installing and changing out light fixtures, outlets and switches, resurfacing our stair treads and risers (each to a perfect fit and perfectly aligned), reorganizing our laundry room set up and building and installing a new utility sink, and finally doing the finishing touches which included installing decorative shelves, mirrors, base and crown molding, paint touch ups with every color, installing a new fireplace cover, a new kitchen faucet, new doors and hardware (oh and every door closes easily and perfectly) and even finished building a Murphy bed for us (for which we threw in a little extra). Everything finished with square corners and clean lines. They even did a great job cleaning up after the project concluded. Point of all of this? To say they themselves, and the quality and value of their work is top notch, world-class. We couldnâ t speak more highly of this team/company and hope this helps answer your question as to whether or not they are the right contractor for you."

Closets questions, answered by experts

A foyer or entryway is typically a formal landing area for guests, located at the primary entrance of a home. It is often more formally decorated and connects directly to the main living space. In contrast, a mudroom is a more casual, utilitarian room, usually leading in from a secondary entrance like a garage or the side or rear of the house. It serves as a space for residents to remove shoes and outerwear to keep mud, dirt, and water out of the main home.

Yes, adding a built-in or custom closet generally increases your home's value and makes it more attractive to potential buyers. A well-designed closet adds utility, organization, and a touch of luxury, which are appealing selling points. Most homeowners see a return on investment (ROI) of 50% to 60%; for example, a custom closet can add about $1,000 to your home's value on average. The specific ROI depends on the type, with custom walk-in closets typically providing more value than reach-in closets. However, to maximize value, ensure the closet doesn't significantly detract from the room's usable square footage. Converting an entire room into a closet can actually lower your home's value. Similarly, using overly lavish materials may not recoup their cost. A good strategy is to add a closet that takes square footage from a non-living area, such as a garage, to create a mudroom closet.

Custom furniture can provide more efficient storage and maximize resources.

Tiny house living requires creative solutions to the one biggest issue: space. Many people in tiny houses find life most manageable if they practice minimalism. Eliminating excess items and clutter makes the living space feel bigger, which can be a significant mood booster. It can also be challenging to get utilities arranged for a tiny house, and building and zoning codes can and often do present unique challenges to overcome.

You can turn an adjacent room into a walking closet by just rearranging the room. This means removing the furniture and adding racks and an island in the center if you have that in your budget. Houses with two bedrooms connected to each other are great options for large walk-in closets that don't require any structural changes or much building whatsoever.
