While it's possible to cover asbestos tile with carpet, it's not recommended. Encapsulating tile beneath carpet doesn't eliminate the health risks. Even if you’re just replacing your carpet and not your baseboards, experts recommend removing existing baseboards before installing new carpet. This allows for a clean and seamless installation without the risk of damaging the baseboards or the carpet. Additionally, removing the baseboards gives you the opportunity to stain or repaint them as well as inspect and repair any underlying issues with the walls or flooring.

Laminate flooring is susceptible to expansion and contraction during temperature fluctuations. In the summer, laminate flooring is more likely to expand, possibly giving it a crowned or warped look. In the winter, when temperatures fall, the flooring can contract, revealing gaps between the boards. This is normal and should be expected when you install laminate flooring.

Plywood is the best type of subfloor for a mobile home, though if you’re installing flooring in a bathroom, you may want to install a vapor barrier or use a moisture-proof subfloor material like Amdry. OBS is similar, but it can swell when moisture is present. 

Either way, old mobile home subflooring made from particleboard can cause issues with your joints. If you’re replacing your subfloor, it’s best to upgrade to plywood.

It all depends on what you’re looking for in a floor. Cork flooring is certainly softer and more sound-absorbing than hardwood floors, and the two share very similar maintenance routines. That said, for some homeowners, the pristine appearance of hardwood floors may be more appealing, and they may be less prone to scratches and dents than cork flooring. Hardwood flooring also tends to be more expensive than cork flooring.
