"DO NOT USE PANHANDLE unless you will be on-site every minute to supervise their employees. We hired them for a clean-up at our home and could not be there when they were working. Upon checking on their work we found our entire home had be ransacked (someone had gone through everything including our bedroom drawers and my office file cabinets and bookcase) leaving definite indications of his searches. We still don't have a complete list of missing items. When apprised of our discovery to someone representing himself as the office manager in Wheeling he offered no apology, but instead commented on the turnover he has to endure in his workforce. Although their work was to our satisfaction, I would not trust the people they send out."

Ozone can damage building materials and belongings in your home, as the same oxidizing powers that allow it to remove odors can break down other things in your living space. However, it would take long-term exposure for any noticeable damages to occur. Since ozone smoke removal takes 24 to 36 hours, a treatment or two won’t have much of a negative impact on your belongings.

Your evaporator coils should be cleaned at least once per year. However, the frequency of cleaning depends on your air conditioning system age and performance. If your system is old, keeps breaking down, or continues to underperform, you should have your evaporator coils cleaned twice per season. 

Your home’s location also plays a central role. For example, if you live in climates with a lot of moisture, humidity, wind, dirt, or dust, you’ll likely need to have your coils cleaned more than once yearly. 

Air vents should never be blocked. It can disrupt the airflow in your home and make rooms too stuffy, hot, or cold. If the vents are blowing out cold air when you want hot air, covering the return vents won't solve the problem. You either have a dirty air filter, furnace problems, or, more than likely, leaky air ducts that need sealing.

Air duct cleaning scams are, unfortunately, so common because the industry is largely unregulated, and technicians don’t need to hold licenses in most states. It’s also easy for scammers to use scare tactics to claim that your indoor air is potentially unsafe, which makes the service an easy sell. Finally, most homeowners don’t have access to their hidden HVAC ducts and can’t check on issues themselves, so it’s easy to claim that there’s mold or debris build-up in there and have it go unchecked.

While you can put air fresheners at the opening to ductwork, most experts don’t recommend it. You will only disguise the odors rather than treat the underlying cause. Plus, blasting the concentrated chemical fragrance into your home’s air when the HVAC system is on may be overpowering and cause respiratory issues.
