"I cannot say enough about our technician, Jordan, or the service of In Phase. We put our request into Angi and probably 1 minute later In Phase called. We have been wanting to upgrade our house to Ecobee since we purchased it two years ago. We thought we could do it ourselves, but our home had 3 zones, a two-wire boiler, and a newly added Central Air system. I had tried to hire other companies to do the job in the past, but very few companies were familiar with Ecobees. When In Phase called they were confident in the Ecobee system and were able to get us in the next day. Jordan showed up on time and was very personable and knowledgeable about the system. He had everything up and running in about 2.5 hours. This easily saved my husband and I a weekend of working on this, not to mention the fact that I didn't have to hear any cursing. (LOL!) BTW...we had already purchased everything, Jordan installed it and got it all set up for us. Many thanks!"

"Harker Heating And Cooling is the best HVAC contractor we have ever worked with in 40 years. Their web site proudly says they are an “honest company with Midwestern values.” That is absolutely true. Their representative provided in-depth advice, answered our questions. and returned our messages. Their techs were knowledgeable, professional, careful, and friendly. They were on time, on call, and on budget. The service they provided for us over the years could not be better. So when the time finally came to replace our old furnace and A/C we selected them. Unfortunately, they encountered many unexpected problems installing our new equipment. Many more than they had anticipated for the job. But their representative pledged to address every one of them no matter how hard it was for them or how much of their time it took. And that is exactly what they did. No quibbling and no questions. They got the job done right. If you want an honest family contractor who stands behind what they do, and lives by those Midwestern values, then this is the company to hire. You will be glad you did. "Zach not only mowed the yard, a hill i hate, but also made sure any clippings on the sidewalks or driveway were taken care of. He was also kind enough to mow the vegetation that had sprouted between some cracks in the driveway."

Nest Installation questions, answered by experts

Grass spiders, also known as funnel-web spiders, are the culprits here, building small webs directly into the grass to catch any insects that have the misfortune of crawling too close. They are often confused with wolf spiders, as the two species look nearly identical, but grass spiders are actually great helpers in maintaining your lawn.

Both insects can damage wood, but there are key differences between termites and carpenter ants that tell them apart. Carpenter ants tunnel through moist wood, leaving behind smooth tunnels and sawdust-like piles, as they don't eat the wood but rather carve it for nesting. In contrast, termites actually consume wood, creating irregular galleries filled with mud and dirt, and leaving behind mud tubes as their signature. In terms of appearance, carpenter ants have segmented bodies with heart-shaped heads and larger front wings, while termites have more oval bodies with straight antennae and equal-sized wings.

Skunks spray as a defense mechanism to ward off predators. The active ingredient in their sulfurous, oily musk is n-butyl mercaptan, which evaporates into a powerful and smelly gas. Once the spray hits the skunk’s target, the stench can linger for days, and water and common cleaning kits aren’t enough to wash it away.

If you happen upon a skunk in your yard, try to back away slowly to reduce the chance of them aiming at you. Encouragingly, they don’t use their weapon casually, as it can take up to 10 days for their life-saving weaponry to refill. Paw stamping, hissing, lifting their tail, and arching their back are early signs they feel trapped or under threat and that it’s time to make a careful retreat.

Scarecrows and lifelike animal decoys, such as snakes, owls, coyotes, foxes, and hawks, can initially deter rabbits. However, these tactics might lose effectiveness if rabbits learn they are harmless. Having your dog or cat roam and mark the yard with their scent can also prove beneficial. Keep in mind tactics like these work best when combined with other methods.

Brown recluse spiders are attracted to homes and properties in search of shelter and food. Key attractants include a steady supply of insects, which are their primary food source. Consequently, things that attract other bugs, like food left out or poorly sealed trash cans, will also indirectly attract spiders. They also seek warm, dry, dark spots with nooks and crannies for nesting, such as untended wood piles, dirt piles, and cardboard boxes. Additionally, excessive outdoor lighting can attract insects, which in turn draws in spiders.
