"Had all rooms in my house done with carpet and laminate for kitchen. This was in 2022. They sub contract out to other companies to do all the work. In fact after you buy your product through salesman you will never hear from him again. I have a plank coming up in my kitchen along with peeling. Couple other little areas not noticeable from far away. Empire handed off to a contractor to have them call me. They told me $275 for service call. I even sent pictures. They would take the $275 off the project if I went ahead and had them do the work as long as product not defective. My point is, $275 to just come and take a look at area I?m talking about?? It?s not even Empire coming to look. Plus I bought everything from them. So apparently like someone said after the sale you are pretty much written off. They do not stand behind their product. Hard to rate on customer service. Who do you rate, Empire or the people doing the work! Ha!"

No, you don’t need to remove the old grout before installing new tile over existing tile. In fact, the old grout helps fill in gaps between tiles, creating a more even surface for the new layer. However, it's important to ensure that the grout is clean, solid, and free of cracks or crumbling areas. Damaged grout should be repaired or replaced before proceeding. Cleaning the surface thoroughly and filling any low spots will help the new adhesive bond properly and ensure a smooth, stable installation.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are made from clay, but porcelain tiles are fired in a kiln at a higher temperature. This makes them more durable, but it also means porcelain is more expensive than ceramic at $3 to $5 more per square foot.

Even with the higher price point, many people choose porcelain over ceramic because there are more color and design options.

When choosing tiles for a shower floor, avoid highly porous tile materials, like those with a water absorption rating over 7%. Don’t use non-vitreous tiles, or tiles fired at low temperatures, because they will absorb more water. If you use a highly porous tile in the shower, the tiles can wear down faster, meaning they’ll need to be replaced much sooner.

Porcelain is a relatively affordable, mid-range countertop. It’s less expensive than other popular materials, including quartz, slate, concrete, and marble. It’s similar in price to the average, low-end or mid-range granite or quartzite countertop (high-end options cost more). It’s more expensive than laminate, acrylic, and ceramic.

However, note that porcelain doesn’t come with very many long-term maintenance costs. If it breaks, you’ll still need to make repairs, but it won’t need regular sealing like concrete and natural stone.

Your floors should be completely level for tile, otherwise you risk damaging the tiles in the future. When there are even small gaps or hills in the subfloor beneath the tile, this puts more pressure on the tile when you walk around on the floor. With repeated traffic, the tiles are at risk of cracking, and you’ll have to deal with tile repairs sooner than if the floor was completely level.
