"My chest freezer broke down and I did not want to buy a new one since I could not afford the same size. I reached out to appliance parts pro and they were confident that what I ordered would fix my problem. $200 in parts later and I now have a broken freezer on my porch and am still paying the loan to this terrible company. They just want you to order parts and try them because they know you can't return them. I hate this company with every fiber of my being and will make sure that anyone that has a broken appliance will not use them. To top it off, their site is so screwed up that it give you an error trying to log back in. I ended up having to create THREE different accounts because every time I went to place a new order, it would not let me login and it would not send a password reset email. DON'T GET RIPPED OFF."

The pipes were right up against the wall so I thought it might be a challenge for them, but they were in/out in less than 20 minutes and cleaned everything up like they weren't even there. "This company was subcontracted, and they have been terrible. Entire project was delayed because he didn't come out on more than 2 occasions when he said he would. Sent his son out to do the work. Instead of running the hot water line from the shower to the sink, he used the old track and secured the hot water pipe around the entire room, charging more money for the job with the extra pipe being ran. The hot water pipe was ran along an exterior wall. The pipe began freezing. We did heat wrap but ended up having to put a blow dryer in there. The cold water pipe did not freeze at all. The room temperature was roughly 60 degrees. The proximity of the hot water pipe to the wall caused it to freeze. Multiple calls, texts, and voicemails were completely ignored by Bob. Contractor wasn't exactly responsive either. It's now almost a year later and they still have not fixed anything. I keep getting told, when it gets cold. It's been in the 40s already and no fix... "

You can convert a gas heater to electric, but it isn’t as simple as swapping a plug or two. First of all, you need to make sure there’s adequate power to the unit, as electric units require much higher power amounts versus gas. Then, you need to close off the gas lines and ventilation. Make sure you don’t also need a permit for an electric water heater—some cities require it. Making the switch can cost upwards of $1,500.

It is very difficult and dangerous to install your own water heater, so we strongly recommend against tackling this as a DIY project. Not only will you need to wire your water heater, but you’ll also need to connect plumbing to the intake and outlet. Sweating copper pipes and connecting wiring properly are skills most DIYers don’t have, and even if you do feel confident you can do it, working with water and electricity always leaves the potential for electrocution. Hiring a local water heater installer is well worth the investment.

Most hot water heater manufacturers recommend replacing the anode rod about once every three to five years. Anode rods sacrifice themselves by collecting iron, limestone, and other minerals that would otherwise corrode your hot water heater tank. This abuse wears them out long before your water heater does. Check the rod when you remove it and replace it if more than 50% of the metal has been consumed. Check the rod more frequently if you have hard water or use a water softener. 

Traditional gas or electric water heaters last an average of six to 11 years. However, with excellent maintenance, they can last up to 15 years. Heat pump water heaters, on the other hand, last an average of between 12 and 15 years and potentially longer with proper maintenance. In both cases, your home's water quality can be a determining factor regarding the lifespan of your water heater.

Your water heater should be on its own dedicated circuit breaker, with no other power sources running to it. This is required to meet the National Electric Code–and to ensure it runs as efficiently as possible.
